The Benefits of Fasting In ramadan By: Mohammed Nehan Grade:8B

Fasting in the Month of RAMADAN, According to Islam, the rewards of fasting are many, but in this month they are believed to be multiplied. The last ten days of Ramadan are considered highly blessed, especially the night called Laylat al Qadr”.The Qur'an says that “laylat al Qadr is better than a thousand months” and also says that “during this night the Koran was sent down”.to be gradually revealed by angel Jibril to Muhammad. Laylat al Qadr is to be found in the last ten nights of the month Ramadan. There is no history in the Quran as to when the specific date is.So during the last ten days, this period is marked by a heightened spiritual intensity, offering salat and reciting the Qur'an.

It is that blessed time of the year again in which Muslims draw even closer to Allah. This drawing closer to Allah is because the acts of worship the Muslim performs are for Allah only and he further exhibits his sincere intentions by abandoning things that he loves and desires such as food, drink etc.

Spiritual Benefits: what does one gain by drawing closer to Allah and sacrificing desires? Fasting is a deeply spiritual practice that is meant to benefit us in body, mind, and heart. Allah said: "O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, in order that you gain Taqwa ." (Holy Quran) Since the fasting person honours the obligatory duties and avoids sinful acts, he gains taqwa . In this regards the fasting believer also follows the noble advice of the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Whoever does not abandon false speech, acting upon that (false speech) and (acts of) ignorance (i.e. sins), then Allah has no need of him abandoning his food and drink." (Bukhari)

Social benefits: Fasting teaches us that the person who has wealth is caused to realise the blessing of wealth that Allah has bestowed on him. Although many only view materialistic gains as wealth, Islam also looks at people who have food and drink as being wealthy. Many people are deprived of these things, so the fortunate should praise Allah for these blessings and thank Him. Ramadan makes us remember our brother who is poor and who probably goes through the day starved and hungry. So, the honourable guest awakens in us the feelings of generosity and charity to clothes and satisfy others.

Fasting brings us is that the soul is broken down and restricted from having pride, to the point that it humbles itself to the truth and softens itself before the creation. This is because eating, drinking etc — all of these things bring about insolence, arrogance and pride over people and over the truth. The soul preoccupies itself with trying to obtain these things because of its need for them. So, when it obtains these things, the soul feels like it has conquered what it desired and so it falls into the happiness and proudness that is condemned and eventually become a cause for its destruction.

The last thing we want to point out regarding the benefits of fasting are the health benefits: Fasting is a good practice, if properly implemented. It promotes elimination of toxins from the body, reduces blood sugar and fat stores. It promote healthy eating habits and boost immunity. What Do the Scientists Say? Dr. Allan Cott says: "Fasting is the most effective way to kill unwanted parasites, bacteria, viruses and fungi, to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, to sleep better, to digest food better, to regulate bowels, to learn better eating habits" health benefits you ca derive from fasting.

Here are a few ways that Fasting benefits us: 1. Fasting Promotes detoxification 2. Fasting Rests Digestive System 3. Fasting Resolves Inflammatory Response 4. Fasting Reduces Blood Sugar 5. Fasting Increases Fat breakdown 6. Fasting Corrects high blood Pressure 7. Fasting Promotes Weight loss 8. Fasting Promotes Healthy diet 9. Fasting Boosts Immunity 10.Fasting May Help to Overcome Addictions

Dr.James Balch says: "Fasting is an effective and safe method of detoxifying the body... A technique that wise men have used for centuries to heal the sick. Fast regularly helps the body heal itself and stay well. Give all of your organs a rest. Fasting can help reverse the aging process, and if we use it correctly we will live longer, happier lives .

This holy month of Ramadan incites in us the love of Allah and the zeal to worship him with sincerity.
