Writer of the story Khalil Gibran was a Lebanese-American writer Born in 1883 in a village of the Lebanon Artist, Poet, Essayist, Novelist and philosopher. Khalil Gibran immigrated with his family to the United States in 1895. Died in 1931. 4

THE BROKEN WINGS Broken Wings is a poetic novel written in Arabic language first published in 1912 Original Title : الأجنحة المتكسرة The book highlights many of the social issues , including religious corruption, the rights of women, and the considering up of wealth and happiness . 5

Summary 7 It is a tale of tragic love, set at the turn of the 20th century in Beruit .  A young woman, Selma Karamy , is engaged to a prominent religious man's nephew. The a young man that Gibran perhaps modeled after himself falls in love with this woman. They begin to meet in secret, however they are discovered, and Selma is forbidden to leave her house, breaking their hopes and hearts.
