The Caribbean Tourism Project

You are on the Board of Tourism for the island country of ____________________________________________.
It is your job to increase the volume of tourists visiting your island. You need to sell your island as the perfect
paradise that has everything to offer a tourist looking for a dream, Caribbean Island getaway. Your job is to
make a visual presentation such as a powerpoint, prezi or video along with a brochure or information sheet for
your potential tourists.
Use the following format/guidelines to create your presentation! Make sure you pay attention to details and
draw from a variety of sources to create a fabulous tourist guide.

Use the Five Themes of Geography to describe your country!


Location
-Where is it?
-Provide information regarding specifically where your island is located.
-This is a good time to show a map
-Tell me where it is in relation to us, and other countries.


Place
-What is it like?
-Contains physical, cultural, and human characteristics of a location including:
climate, landforms, vegetation, buildings, history, people, etc.
-Make sure you not only describe what it is like, but you give a great visual of your
island(s). Lots of pictures or videos!!!!


Region

-How are places similar or different?
-This section is a great opportunity for you to describe how or why your island
country is unique and set apart from all the others. Why should I leave the
comfort of my home to travel to your country? Why should we choose your
island over the thousands of others?



Movement
-How do goods, people and ideas get from one place to another?
-Describe ways to reach your island destination!
-Does your island have a cruise port? Airport?
-What about getting around the island? What is the preferred method of
transportation?
-Walk? Bike? Scooters? Golf Cart? Taxi cab? Boat? Train?

Human
Environment
Interaction
-How do people relate to the physical world?
-Have people changed the environment to meet their needs?
-Cutting down forests? Shipwrecks? Building large cities? Protection from
volcanoes? Protection from hurricanes? Airports? Etc.
-Or have people learned to live with environmental aspects they cannot control?
-Jungle Zip Line Canopy tours? Diving on coral reefs? Surfing? Cave
exploring? Cliff jumping? Volcano tours? Etc.

Mastery of Knowledge

-Does each member demonstrate mastery of
knowledge of the entire project content?
-Did the students collaborate and share
knowledge?
-Does the group seem to have extensive research
and effort?
-Are major and minor concepts covered with each
member exhibiting in depth thinking?

Brochure/Info Sheet

-Does the brochure consist of the main ideas and
or topics covered?
-Is the brochure a good reference guide?
-Is it creatively laid out and organized?
