THE
COMPLETE
BIBLE
TIMELINE
A comprehensive, visual

timeline overview of the
entire Bible including:

Historical Eras & Maps,
Major “Turning Point”
Events, and simple
descriptions so (in one
single resource) you can
know where each book
of the Bible goes, and
how the entire biblical
storyline fits together.

Hello Friend! My name is Bodie Quirk. I was a Teaching Pastor for
20 years, and I am the founder of the You Can Learn the Bible
Academy, an online Bible Study community dedicated to helping
you become a more confident student of Scripture.
Around 2015, I created one of my first courses The Complete Bible
Overview which included a visual timeline of the Bible (based on
Accordance Bible Software’s Incredible Timeline Module).

I uploaded the course to YouTube, and my #1 question / comment
(by far) on those videos was “Where can I get that timeline?”
My usual response was to send them to the Accordance website.
However, I always wanted to have another option. Something clear
and simple to give away. And here it is:

The Complete Bible Timeline.

You are now looking at a brand-new, completely updated version
of the original timeline. The goal is simple: to help you you
connect the major historical eras, turning point events, important
geographical regions and books of the Bible into a single visual
timeline, so you can know how every part of the Bible fits together.
There are 4 things to notice when you look at the timeline

(starting at the top of the timeline, scanning down to bottom):
1. COLORED COLUMNS
These indicate how many years a particular
historical era lasted. The wider the column,
the longer that particular period was around.
2. ERA TITLES AND DATE
At the top of each column you will see a
name and date. Earlier dates have a ~
which means the date is approximate.
3. TURNING POINT EVENTS
In the center of the columns you will see
events with numbers. These are major
events that shift the biblical storyline
4. BOOKS OF THE BIBLE
At the bottom of each column you will see
Where the books of the Bible fall on the
timeline. (Events recorded, not it’s writing)

This PDF is best experienced on a computer or device where you
can present it full screen and advance slides using your → and ←
keys (Scrolling works ok too in a pinch, but it’s not quite as good).
Either way, I pray that this is a resource that you keep for years as
you continue to read, study and love God’s Word.
Feel free to email me directly with any thoughts, comments or
improvements [email protected].
May God bless you abundantly!

TRIBES
Through out this time, the people were
regularly unfaithful to God and to their end of
the covenant (Idolatry). God would allow a
neighboring people group to overtake them
(Judgment). The people would cry out to God
for help (repentance), God would raise up a
“Judge” or deliverer to rescue the people
(deliverance) and then there would be a time of
rest before the people forgot God and fell into
idolatry all over again.

CYCLE
God raised up, and even supernaturally
empowered his rescue-deliverers when the
people cried out in repentance. Notable
judges: Samson, Gideon, Deborah and others
until Samuel becomes the final Judge and
transition into the next phase of Israel’s history.

SAMUEL
Israel’s first king who had all the outward evidence of the kind of king
that the people wanted. He was strong, good-looking and confident.

A young shepherd boy, David was a nobody until he stood up to Goliath,

(“Solomon loved many foreign women”). Solomon built Israel’s greatest
temple and ruled during a time of of wealth and abundance.

without any prophetic voice from God (until John the Baptist comes
later). It has 5 important historical periods:

world: spreading everything Greek (language, culture, philosophy)

considered Greek culture as paganism, opposing their core identity.

This time also saw the rise of many groups we see in the New

JUDEA & GALILEE
The now thoroughly Greek-speaking, Roman-controlled
regions of Judea (the Romanized name of Judah) and Galilee
(previously part of Northern Israel) become the backdrop for
the culmination of the entire biblical story, the arrival of the
long-awaited Old Testament Messiah: Jesus of Nazareth.
This region was controlled by Herod the Great (who died
shortly after Jesus’ birth) and then divided up amongst his

3 sons: Philip, Herod Antipas (Galilee) and Archelaus (Judea).
Archaleaus was replaced by Pontius Pilate, who plays a key
role in the life and ministry of Jesus, especially his final week.

JESUS: THE MESSIAH
The arrival of Jesus of Nazareth is the centerpiece event of the
entire Bible. His teaching, miracles, obedient life, sacrificial death,
resurrection from the dead, and ascension back to heaven
vindicate his controversial claims of being the Old Testament
Messiah.
Jesus’s cousin, John the Baptist acts as the final Old Testament
prophet (even though we read of him in the New Testament). He
paves the way for Jesus’ arrival as “the voice of one crying in the
wilderness, make straight the path of the Lord”.

Jesus grew up in Galilee (Nazareth and Capernaum mostly), and many events
we read about in the gospels take place in this region (the sea of Galilee is
where Jesus walks on water). Many marveled at his authoritative teaching and
miracles, yet the Jews began to see him as a threat due to his extreme claims
about himself (Jesus claimed to be the Old Testament Messiah) and his growing
power and influence among the people.

Jerusalem
Jesus travelled between Galilee and Judea often, mostly to celebrate Passover
at the temple in Jerusalem. Many of the events we read about (that did not take
place in Galilee) are either in Samaria (which many Jews tried to avoid) or in
Judea, most often in Jerusalem itself.
Jerusalem is the setting for Jesus’ final week which includes his triumphal
entry, last supper, arrest, crucifixion, burial, and ascension back to heaven.

CRUCIFIXION & RESURRECTION
Crucifixions were held outside the city
walls as a public warning against
threatening Rome. Jesus was killed
on a Friday before Passover began
and returns to life 3 days later.
When Jesus returns from death 3
days later (and is witnessed by over
500 people) it lights a fire in the
Roman Empire that has never since
gone out.
The church of Jesus Christ is born.
There will be no stopping it.

There is no doubt that Christianity was born
out of Jewish roots, but since Jesus had
fulfilled the Law and Gentiles (non-Jews)
were believing in Jesus the Messiah, an
inevitable drift began to form between

Jews and Christians.

There is no doubt that Christianity was born
out of Jewish roots, but since Jesus had
fulfilled the Law and Gentiles (non-Jews)
were believing in Jesus the Messiah, an
inevitable drift began to form between

Jews and Christians.
So much so, that the hub of Christian
missionary activity moved out of Jerusalem
and Northward up to Antioch.
Antioch became the launching point for the
Apostle Paul’s Missionary Journeys that
become the focal point of the second half of
the Book of Acts.

Missionary Journeys
The Early Church
In the Book of Acts

From Antioch, Paul goes into Asia Minor (Modern Day Turkey) to
plant churches. He preaches Christ in Jewish synagogues and
receives mostly rejection and persecution from his Jewish
brothers, but many Gentiles come to believe in Christ. After being
beaten repeatedly, he survives, returns to Antioch and prepares to
head out for his second Missionary Journey.
PAUL’S 1ST MISSIONARY JOURNEY

Paul visits some of the churches he planted
on his first Missionary Journey, but continues
across the Mediterranean Sea through
Macedonia and Greece and eventually back
to Antioch. Paul and Silas continue to plant
churches and face hardships.
This is when Paul begins to write some of the
letters we have in our New Testament (such
as Galatians, 1&2 Thessalonians). Upon
returning to Antioch, he leaves again (almost
immediately) to “strengthen the disciples”.
PAUL’S 2ND MISSIONARY JOURNEY

The was the longest of Paul’s Journey’s (due to
staying in Ephesus for 2 years). He again visits
churches he planted on his previous Missionary
Journeys and again, faces much opposition
(mostly from the Jews).
Despite opposition, the churches continue to
grow and thrive. Paul writes more letters
(Romans, 1&2 Corinthians). Paul is prepared to
give his life in service to Christ as a missionary,
expecting to be arrested, which he is, which
also allows him to testify to the Jewish leaders
in Jerusalem about Christ.
PAUL’S 3RD MISSIONARY JOURNEY

Though Paul is arrested in Jerusalem for preaching Christ, his status as a Roman citizen grant him certain rights
and protections. He is sent as a prisoner from Jerusalem to Rome on a journey that includes much peril.
In Rome, Paul is on house arrest which means he can receive visitors and send letters. This is when Paul writes
his “Prison Epistles” (Philemon, Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians) and likely his “Pastoral Epistles” as well. Paul
is alive at the end of the book of Acts, and along with Peter dies in 62-63 under the persecution of Nero.

Turning points 14 and 15 are the
only two turning points on our
timeline that overlap
chronologically.
This is because the New Testament
letters were written during the Early
Church’s life and ministry.
This is the one part of the timeline
where a lot of important events
happen in a (relatively) short
window of time.

THE NEW TESTAMENT
The disciples Jesus trained during his earthly ministry (people like Peter,
James, John) become the “Apostles” during the Early Church period.
An Apostle was an official representative or spokesperson for the living
Christ. The New Testament is important (and deserving of its own turning
point separate from the events of church history) because it is our link to the
Apostles themselves.

taken place in history, which takes us to our final turning point: The Church.

THE INTER-TESTAMENTAL PERIOD
The believing community of people who place their trust and
allegiance in Jesus Christ are called the Church. The church is not
a building, but a people who have a new primary identity of
belonging to Jesus. From the Early Church to today, people from
a wide variety of backgrounds who choose Christ are invited into
what God is doing through his covenant people. From the first
century to today, God uses the church as his primary way of
working in the lives of people like you and me.

THE INTER-TESTAMENTAL PERIOD
Between the Book of Acts (the Early Church) and today
lies about 20 centuries of Church History. We see much
of the same realities that we see in the Bible: God being
faithful, man getting off track and re-correcting, and God
working in the lives of imperfect believers.
CHURCH HISTORY
Because the Apostles did their job in the first century,
plus many centuries of faithful disciples of Jesus Christ
through out Church History, the church is still alive and
well today. There are still problems (like there have
always been) but Christ is still on the throne and the head
of His church.
PRESENT
The timeline isn’t done! Though the Bible itself is
complete, there are still many things mentioned in the
Bible that have not yet come to pass. For us who belong
to Christ and His church, we continue to live holy lives,
watch eagerly and be assured that God will keep His
promises as He has all along.
To God be the Glory Forever!
FUTURE
