4 TYPES OF CONSEQUENCES OF OVER POPULATION 1. CROWDING 3. DEPLETION OF THE WORLD’S NATURAL RESOURCES 2. FOOD SHORTAGES 4. DECLINING SUPPLIES OF CLEAN WATER
CROWDING Freedman (1975 in S ullivan, 1995) has argued that crowding itself does not have negative consequences. Crowding is oftentimes associated with other social conditions such as poverty that produce increases in crime or aggression ( liddell and kruger , 1987; Ehrlich and Ehrlich, 1990 in sullivan , 1995 ).
FOOD SHORTAGES It is difficult to increase agricultural production enough to keep with population growth ( kendall , 2003).
DEPLETION OF THE WORLD’S NATURAL RESOURCES This loss of biological variability, or biodiversity, could have a negative impact on the adaptability of the entire ecosystem or word environment (Hess et al., 1993).
DECLINING SUPLIES OF CLEAN WATER The diversion of streams for irrigation; drying up of groundwater; and the pollution of other sources has created a scarcity of drinkable water.
