Since my company, UFO Contemporary Inc., markets dance wear, supporting the Dancers Care Foundation is a logical step. Dancers Care devotes itself to fundraising for a cancer cure by sponsoring projects with dance companies and schools. Dancers Care launched its first drive with a benefit competition in 2002 at a New Jersey high school. It raised almost $10,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Each year brought ever larger donations to other cancer charities. In all, Dancers Care has raised more than $500,000, all of which has gone to research.
The agency has devised several creative ways to give and support. Its Ambassador Cards spread the message via wallet-size cards to give to friends, family, and business associates. They feature the agency’s web address, DancersCare.org. Another initiative, the Dollar Project, has a simple plan: get the huge number of students at the nation’s 20,000 dance schools to each contribute a dollar; names of studios and individuals appear on a special Hope Mural. Dancers Care also welcomes corporate and celebrity sponsorships.
