The Elves and The Shoemaker
Assalamualaikum and a very good morning to all of you. Thank you Mrs
Chairman, honourable judges, teachers and all my lovely friends.
Once upon of time, there was a shoemaker who made very good shoes.
The shoemaker lived in a small hometown with his wife. He worked very hard
and was very honest but still he could not earn enough money to live on.
One night, he had only enough leather for a pair of shoes. He said to his
wife, “After I cut this lather, I will have no more leather to make shoes. What
will I do?”
His wife looked at him and said “We need to be patience my dear. You
should rest now”.
He went to bed. The next morning, the shoemaker was shocked. He saw
a beautiful pair of shoes on his work table. “How pretty they are!” he said.
“Who make these for me?” He showed the shoes to his wife.
His wife was also shocked to see the shoes. She said “It is really pretty.
You should display the shoes and sell it”.
Soon, a lady came and bought the shoes. The shoemaker had enough
money to buy food and more leather. That evening he cut out more shoes.
The next morning, there were four pairs of shoes. Things began to get
even better. More people came and wanted the shoes design by the
shoemaker. The shoemaker cut out more and more shoes. And every morning,
there were shoes on his work table.
One night, the shoemaker and his wife, wanted to see what went on
actually. They waited until midnight and looked into the workroom. There,
they saw two little elves came into the room, both without any clothes on, and
sat down by the shoemaker’s table. They began to stitch, and sew, and
hammer the shoes so skilfully and so quickly with their little fingers.

“Oh, they were so good to us. I’ll make shoes for them” said the
shoemaker.
“I will make sweaters for them too” said the wife.
The next night, they when everything was ready, they put their presents
all together on the worktable and hid themselves to see what the little elves
would do. The elves put on the sweaters and the shoes. They were happy and
laughed. They went away and never went back to the workroom again.
What we can learn from this story is one good turn deserves another. It
means if someone does something to help you, you should do something to
help them. If someone does you a favour, you should do a favour for that
person in return. Thank you.
