The son of David

The son of Abraham

Abraham had Isaac.

Isaac means “laughing one.”

Isaac had Jacob.

Jacob means “to take by the
heel” or “cheater.”

The Lord changed Jacob’s name
to Israel.

Jacob had Judah and his
brothers.

The Lord saw that Jacob did not
love Leah and opened her womb.

Judah was their youngest child.

Judah had the twins Perez and
Zerah.

Their mother was Tamar.

Tamar was Judah’s daughter-in-
law who made Judah live up to a
promise.

Perez had Hezron.

The descendents of Hezron were
called Hezronites.

Hezron had Aram.

And Aram had Amminadab.

Amminadab had Nahshon.

When Moses called the people to
the dedication of the Holy
Tabernacle

Nahshon led his family
and was the first to bring
an offering.

Nashon had Salmon.

Salmon had Boaz.

The mother of Boaz was Rahab.

Rahab was a prostitute

and yet a believer.

She was not Jewish.

Boaz had Obed.

Obed’s mother was Ruth.

Ruth was from Moab.

She was not Jewish.

Obed had Jesse.

Jesse had David,

and David became King.

David had Solomon.

Solomon’s mother was the wife
of Uriah the Hittite.

Solomon was a very wise man

but not a happy man.

His kingdom was crumbling
from within.

Solomon had Rehoboam.

Rehoboam was a harsh king.

The Kingdom divided under his
rule.

Rehoboam had Abijah.

Abijah had Asa.

Asa had Jehoshaphat.

Jehoshaphat’s name means “the
Lord is judge.”

Jehoshaphat had Joram.

Joram was a worshipper of Baal.

Joram had Uzziah.

Uzziah had Jotham.

Jotham’s name means “G-d is
perfect.”

“G-d is complete.”

Jotham had Ahaz.

Ahaz refused to trust the Lord.

Ahaz had Hezekiah.

Hezekiah had started as a good
king,

but began to take pride in what
were the Lord’s
accomplishments.

Hezekiah had Manasseh.

He was the most wicked king
ever to be enthroned in
Jerusalem.

He eventually repented of his
evil.

Manasseh had Amon.

Amon followed in his father’s
footsteps committing evil.

He was assassinated by his
officials.

He never repented.

Amon had Josiah.

Josiah was eight years old when
he became king.

Early in his life, he denounced
idols

and sought to rebuild the Lord’s
temple.

There, among the ruins, they
found an obscure writing –the
Holy Scripture --

forgotten by generations.

As the King Josiah listened to the
Word, he became convicted and
renewed the ancient covenant of
the Lord.

Passover was celebrated for the
first time in decades.

Josiah had Jehoiachin and his
brothers.

Jehoiachin was placed on the
throne by the Babylonians.

And then the people were taken
into the Babylonian exile.

Then the exile ended, and

Jehoiachin had Shealtiel.

Shealtiel had Zerubbabel.

He laid the foundation for the
second temple in Jerusalem.

Zerubbabel had Abiud.

Abiud

His name means “My father is
majesty.”

Abiud had Eliakim.

Eliakim had Azor.

Whose name means “helpful.”

Azor had Zadok.

He lived during the time of
Alexander the Great.

His name means “just.”

Zadok had Achim.

During his lifetime, Palestine
was probably ruled by the
Ptolemies.

Achim had Eliud.

His name means “G-d of
majesty.”

Eliud had Eleazar.

Eleazar had Matthan

whose name means gift.

Matthan had Jacob.

Jacob had Joseph, Mary’s
husband.

The Mary who gave birth to

Jesus

who was called

the Christ.

There were fourteen generations
from Abraham to David

Another fourteen from David to
the Babylonian exile.

And yet another fourteen from
the Babylonian exile to the birth
of a Savior.

His name is Jesus.
