The French revolution of 1789-1815

So what is the French revolution? The French revolution happened from May 1789 to 1799. Where- in France. It was a period of political and social unrest, the people were hungry. The philosophers inspired them to protest. They blamed King Louis XVI for their problems. They were fighting for equality, liberty and fraternity.

What were the causes? Political King Louis XVI had a weak personality The king had absolute power People sent to prison without trial

Economic causes People starving because of drought The rich first and second estates not taxed Louis XVI demanded tax from the third estates Mary Antoinette’s rich lifestyle left Louis in debts

Women took their fight to the streets. Women marched to the Versailles Charlotte Corday stopped the violence that took place Corday murdered Marat- whom was believed that he provided wrongful information to newspapers. Women’s march to the Versailles

T he end of the French revolution. The Jacobins invaded killed nobles and priests, which led too the September massacre. The monarchy was abolished, later the king was killed. The Jacobins begun a Reign of terror Fanatical Robespierre got rid of traitors, including Mary Antoinette. In 1795, a new middle class was formed to rule France.
