2. Amy W inehouse’s music isn’t defined by one specific genre; her music could be categorised into the pop, jazz, soul or R&B genre. However, the route that we’ve decided to go down as a group for our own video is the pop genre. Some of the typical conventions of the pop genre in music videos include: Bright colours Dance routines Lyrics related to love and romance Close up’s on artists to emphasise that they’re the star The star tends to be dressed in fashionable clothes that are both current and up to date Although our video is going to be related to the pop genre, we have decided to go against the typical pop genre conventions for a music video as we came to the conclusion from some of our planning that music videos create more meaning when the pace of the shots are slower and this is something we aim to create in our own video.

The origins of the pop genre The term ‘pop song’ first came from people believed it would be ‘popular music’ It is typically recorded by an artist so that it appeals to a wide audience Pop songs usually last for around 3 minutes The songs usually catch the audience’s attention and make them want to keep listening to the artist’s music

4. Sub genres of the pop genre Within the pop genre there are 36 sub genres making each artist’s music within the pop genre completely unique and different from each other.

5. A quick history of the pop genre 1960’s- numerous artists released new recordings with the radio stations playing only the most popular of these records. Bands would tend to release only their best songs as a chance to get a hit record 1970’s- a new trend of relaxing music was brought into as well as dance music 1980’s- the genres redefined the way bands and artists made music. MTV was probably the most influential aspect of the decade 1990’s- this era was filled with a variety of pop and music was varied. It was a time when some big artists were finding their way in the music industry. 2000’s- decline in boy bands and girl bands
