AUTHORBIOGRAPHY
Anjali Mahendra is a specialist in transportation policy and environmental and regional economics at
ICF International. Her work has involved economic evaluation and environmental analysis of
transportation, land use, air quality improvement, and climate change mitigation policies in the U.S. and
in cities of the developing world. Dr. Mahendra’s particular expertise is in road pricing and other
transportation demand management strategies. This book is based on original research on the
regional economic impacts of road pricing. The work was part of her Ph.D. dissertation at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology that was completed in 2008 and was conducted in collaboration
with the Delft University of Technology. Dr. Mahendra’s professional work has included consulting
assignments for the World Bank, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Transportation
Research Board, and other U.S. federal, regional, and local agencies. She holds Masters degrees in
City Planning and Transportation, as well as a Ph.D. in transportation policy and regional
economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
