MULTIDISCIPLINARY vs INTERDISCIPLINARY Multidisciplinary Utilizes the skills and experience of individuals from different disciplines with each discipline approaching the patient from their own perspective. Provide more knowledge and experience than disciplines operating in isolation. Interdisciplinary System that integrate separate discipline approaches into a single consultation. (patient involved) Advantage of patient- centred approach. Risk is that the dominant personality may interfere with the process.
DEFINITION OF TERMS PHYSIOTHERAPY Healthcare profession that assesses, diagnoses, treats, and works to prevent disease and disability through physical means. The treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as soft/deep tissue manipulation, heat treatment, ergonomic and exercise rather than by drugs or surgery. PHYSIOTHERAPIST Is a healthcare profession who assess, plan & implement rehabilitative program that improve or restore human functions, maximize movement ability, relieve pain syndrome, and treat or prevent physical challenges associated with injuries, diseases and other impairments.

ROLE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY Physiotherapy provides services to individuals and populations to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan. This includes providing services in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, pain, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors. Functional movement is central to what it means to be healthy. Physiotherapy is concerned with identifying and maximizing quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, habilitation and rehabilitation.
Role of a Physiotherapist Promoting optimal mobility, physical activity and overall health and wellness; Preventing disease, injury, and disability; Managing acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations, and participation restrictions; Improving and maintaining optimal functional independence and physical performance; Rehabilitating injury and the effects of disease or disability with therapeutic exercise programs and other interventions; Educating and planning maintenance and support programs to prevent re-occurrence, re-injury or functional decline.
