MODE OF TRANSMISSION OF DISEASES

DISEASE - an impairment of the normal state or functioning of the body as a whole or any part of it.

CLASSIFICATION OF TRANSMISSION DISEASE DIRECT -  when disease-causing microorganisms pass from the infected person to the healthy person via direct physical contact with blood or body fluids. Examples of direct contact are touching, kissing, sexual contact, contact with oral secretions, or contact with body lesions. INDIRECT- occurs when there is no direct human-to-human contact. Contact occurs from a reservoir to contaminated surfaces or objects, or to vectors such as mosquitoes, flies, mites, fleas, ticks, rodents or dogs.

MODE OF TRANSMISSION OF DISEASES

1. Susceptible Host A susceptible host is a host that is biologically vulnerable to infection due to its response to infectious. agents

2. Pathogen referred to as an infectious agent, or simply a germ, an organism causing disease to its host, with the severity of the disease symptoms referred to as virulence.

3 . RESERVOIR any person, animal, arthropod, plant, soil or substance (or combination of these) in which an infectious agent normally lives and multiplies.

4. Portal of Exit This describes the way the microorganism leaves the reservoir. For example, in the case of a person with flu, this would include coughing and sneezing. In the case of someone with gastroenteritis microorganisms would be transmitted in the faeces or vomit.

5. Portal Of Entry Opening where the pathogen may enter. Body openings (e.g., mouth, eyes, urinary tract, respiratory tract), incisions, wounds.
