WHAT IS NUMBER? Numerical representation of amount or quantity is known as NUMBER

TYPES

SINGULAR NUMBER A noun that denotes one person/thing is said to be in singular number

PLURAL NUMBER A noun that denotes more then one person/thing is said to be in plural number

HOW PLURALS ARE FORMED The plural of noun is generally formed by adding “-s” to a singular

2. Nouns ending in “-s”, “-sh”, “-ch” or “-x” form their plural by adding “-es” to the singular NOTE:- The plural of fish is fish or fishes. In current English “FISH” is usual plural. “fishes” can be used as different kinds of fishes.

3. Most of nouns ending in “-o” also form their plural by adding “-es” to the singular.

4. A few nouns ending in “-o” merely add “-s” to form plural

5. Nouns ending in “-y” proceeded by consonant, form their plural by changing “-y” into “-I” and adding “-es”.
