The Parts of the Heart BY: Shruti Vellaturi

Artery Muscular tube lined by smooth tissue 3 layers It allows the blood vessels to travel through the body and deliver oxygen rich blood to different parts through out the entire body.

Aorta Largest artery in the human body Main high-pressure pipeline connected to the heart’s left ventricle. Branches into a network of smaller arteries that extend through out the body.

Pulmonary Artery One of the only arteries that carries deoxygenated blood Carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs.

Veins Muscular tube that has thin walls and they aren’t as strong as the arteries Veins carry the deoxygenated blood back to the heart

Vena Cava Largest vein in the body Carries deoxygenated blood from the body back to the heart

Left Atrium One of the 4 chambers of the heart Receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and sends it to the aorta

Right Atrium One of the four chambers of the heart The chamber that receives deoxygenated blood from the body From here the deoxygenated blood goes into the right ventricle and into the pulmonary artery

Left Ventricle One of the 4 chamber of the heart Pumps oxygenated blood into the aorta

Right Ventricle One of the four chambers Pumps deoxygenated blood into the pulmonary artery
