The Ghost of Hamlet’s Father
What the Ghost Reveals
In my garden as I slept
Where did it happen?
He wanted my throne,
My kingdom,
My wife.
Why did it happen?
As I slept he poured poison in my ear.
How did it happen?
My death was no accident!
It was MURDER!
Committed by my own brother, Claudius
your villainous uncle.
What the Ghost Requests
nThe ghost tells
Hamlet to avenge
his death.
nThis means that
Hamlet will have to
kill his uncle.
nThe ghost tells
Hamlet not to harm
his mother, but let
God determine
what will become
of her.
What Hamlet Does
nGets angry
nSwears to get revenge
nStarts to think about the
ghost
FIs it a good spirit, telling me
the truth?
FIs it an evil spirit, misleading
me?
nHe begins to think,
hesitate, and feels he
needs more proof before
he can act.
Hamlet’s Plan
nTo “put on an antic
disposition”
nThis means he’s
going to act crazy.
nWhy? What
advantage will this
offer to Hamlet?
nInsert a scene in a play
called “The Mousetrap”
that the court will be
seeing.
nThe scene acts out the
events of Hamlet’s
father’s death.
nIf the King acts nervous
or upset, Hamlet will
KNOW he is guilty.
