VERBAL COMMUNICATION
Verbal communication involves the use of words in delivering the intended messages. Words are the most accurate and powerful tools to express and share ideas. Advantages of verbal communication Verbal communication is fast and convenient. Y ou can express what you to say and receive almost immediately. It is an easier way to exchange ideas.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION IS OF TWO TYPES =>
Oral communication The process of expressing information or ideas through spoken word is known as oral communication. It provides immediate feedback and provides clarification. Factors that determines effectiveness of an oral communication are => Pace Clarity in pronunciation Volume/Pitch Choice of words Fluency Length of communication
Written communication It involves sending messages in the form of written words to convey information. It is most formal form of communication. It is an innovative activity of mind that involves a careful choice of words and their placement in the correct order. Examples of written communication include letters, reports, resumes, brouchures, circulars, contracts, notices, etc. Nowadays, written communication has become shorter and faster. SMS and messages like WhatsApp, e-mails, social media, etc., are the some of the standard mediums of written communication. For the effective written communication. For effective written communication, the message should be meaningful, concise and complete.
NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION
Non-verbal communication means communicating without the use of words, either oral or written. It can be effectively used to enhance our verbal communication. It includes our body language, gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, and use of fingers, etc. Advantage of Non-Verbal communication Non verbal communication complements a verbal message. Physical gestures greatly help differently abled people, especially mute and deaf people.
TYPES OF NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION Facial expression the look of the person’s face is often the first thing we see. Gestures conscious hand and body movements and signals. Paralanguage it refers to the vocal elements, like tone, pitch, volume, etc. Body language it refers to hand posture, eye movements, etc. Eye contact is the movement of eyes like looking, starting, and blinking. Touch is communicating through the physical contact. Space between two persons while communicating generally depends on intimacy.
VISUAL COMMUNICATION
Visual communication another key method of communication which involves conveying and interpreting messages or symbols. The primary advantage of visual communication is that it does not require knowledge of any specific language, making it simple, universally understandable and consistent across different regions. Examples of Visual communication Road signs that convey traffic rules and safety instruction. Signs for men’ and women’ toilets that help people quickly identify restrooms. Flammable substance signs. Railway crossing signs. Slippery surface signs. No smoking zone signs.
COMMUNICATION CYCLE
COMMUNICATION: A TWO-WAY PROCESS Communication is a two way process. Communication is not merely the transmission of a message, it also includes an understanding of the message. In this process, one person (or group) is of sender, and he conveys a message to another person (or group) who is the receiver. When the receiver gets the message, he sends back a response, acknowledging that the message was received. So, effective communication always involves feedback from the receiver
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
Effective communication is a communication between two or more people where the intended messages is successfully delivered, received and understood. Effective communication can happen if you follow the basic principles communication skills. Key elements of E ffective communication => Communication is a meaningful process that involves a sender and a receiver. While communicating, both should share a mutually accepted code. A message should be clear. It should convey the right meaning to others. Listening to others is a very important aspect of effective communication. Communication is a process in which there is an input and an output.
IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNION SKILLS Effective communication is essential in every sphere of life, be it personal, professional, or social. It includes all the aspects of visual, auditory, and body language to appeal to the listener. The three missing letters commonly ‘ ing ’ created miscommunication and confession. Instead of receiving the message someone did not want to communicate with you. It can cause serious problems. It can reaching far reaching consequences, resulting in loss of time, money, and trust. It may also impact relationships.
IMPACT OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION ON OUR LIFE It encourages active participation in group discussions and other cohesive teamwork. It helps in building relationships with others. It enables a leader to cultivate a sense of common goal among the team members and drive them to work in a spiritual manner. It helps in handling various conflicts or misunderstanding in an organisation. It fosters success in professional and personal life.
ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION CYCLE Sender one who sends the message. Message information to be conveyed. Encoding foundation of the message. Communication channel medium. Receiver one who receives the message. Decoding interpretation of the message. Feedback response.
BARRIERS TO EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION There are three types of barriers to effective communication.
EDUCATIONAL BARRIERS These are the physical conditions that effect the communication process. For example, defective instruments, poor lightning, uncomfortable seating sitting arrangements, and unhygienic room conditions distract listeners.
SITUATIONAL BARRIERS The factors like distance, noise, and distractions cause unnecessary distribution in the communication process. For example, loud music and noise from generators or other machinery.
INDIVIDUAL BARRIERS Some of the individual barriers are => Attitudinal including factors like age, gender, lack of interest, discomfort with the topic. Linguistic ability speech disorders or other physical disabilities. Inattention if the listener is preoccupied or distract or just not interested in the conversation. Emotional state emotions of the sender at the time of encoding may result in the usage of wrong words or tone that may lead to miscommunication.
PERSPECTIVES IN COMMUNICATION
Perspective is an individual’s point of view through which interprets and understands every communication and event happening around us. Different people have different perspectives as everyone sees things differently from others. We convey and interpret messages through the filters of our knowledge, beliefs and motives. These filters form the basis of our perspective and reflect the way we think about the persons we are communicating with, and the way we communicate with them.

Clear The message should not be vague or confusing. Correct The message should be free of any grammatical and spelling mistakes. Also, the facts mentioned in the message must be relevant and accurate. Complete The message should be completed. Concrete The content should be supported by facts and figures. Concise The message should be precise and to the point. Consideration The sender must take into consideration the receiver’s opinions.
