OUTLINE
Introduction
NF-κB Signaling Pathway
The role of nf-κb signaling pathways in developmental
processes
Conclusion

WHAT IS NUCLEAR FACTOR- ΚB
(NF-ΚB)
The nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) family of transcription factors
control the expression of genes involved in many critical
physiological responses such as inflammatory responses,
proliferation, differentiation, cell adhesion and apoptosis
(Kracht et al., 2020).

Structure of factor-κB (NF-κB)

NF-ΚB SIGNALING PATHWAY
NF-ĸB signaling pathways (both classical and non-classical) have been
linked to numerous cellular and tissue formation processes, including
proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, survival, necrosis, and
development (Chen et al., 2019).

NF-ΚB SIGNALING
PATHWAY

1. The role and mechanism of NF-ĸB in the development of the
cardiovascular system
Heart development - L-carnitine impacts the iNOS/NO and NF-ĸB
pathways by regulating RelA translocation to relieve perfluorooctanoic acid-
induced developmental cardiotoxicity (Basak et al., 2018).
Angiogenesis- by regulating the expression of angiogenic factors, such as
bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)− 2, cell cycle regulator p53, matrix
metalloproteinase (MMP)− 1/9, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), etc
(Pomerantz and Baltimore, 2012).
THE ROLE AND MECHANISM OF NF-ĸB IN
DEVELOPMENT

2. NF-ĸB also play an important role in the respiratory system
development
3. Role of NF-ĸB in the development of skin and Skin Appendages
– by innate immune response through the TRPV4/TAK1/NF-ĸB signaling
pathways by sensing the osmotic stress (Wit et al., 2016)
THE ROLE AND MECHANISM OF NF-ĸB IN
DEVELOPMENT

3. NF-ĸB role in the Immune System and Hematopoietic development
Immune Cells- positive selection during peripheral B-lymphocyte development,
commitment to a follicular or marginal zone B cell fate (Zhao et al., 2015).
Lymphoid Organs
Hematopoietic system- functions of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs).
4. Impact of NF-ĸB signaling on Digestive System development
Digestive Gland Development by developing SMG via NF-ĸB signaling (Wit et al.,
2016).
Tooth Development- the neurotrophin receptor-mediated melanoma antigen-
encoding gene (NRAGE)
THE ROLE AND MECHANISM OF NF-ĸB IN
DEVELOPMENT

OTHER ROLES OF NF-KB
Role of NF-ĸB in the development of Skeletal and Muscular
System
Chondrogenesis and Endochondral Ossification
Intramembranous ossification and osteogenesis
Limb development
Skeletal muscle development

NF-ĸB signaling pathways impacting developmental
process remain limited, especially in the urinary and
digestive system. Moreover, the role of the NF-ĸB
signaling pathway in development is usually synergistic
with other pathways.
