And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, SAMSON TEARS A LION WITH HIS HANDS
The spirit of might Isaiah 11:1-2 LEARNING TO PROPHESY APRIL 15, 2020
The Bible speaks of some men that were operating in the Spirit of might, they are called mighty men, or men of valor. Let’s have a quick look on this subject.
Samson, a judge of Israel
Judges 14:5-6 (NKJV) 5 So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Now to his surprise, a young lion came roaring against him. 6 And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.
With a jawbone of an ass as a weapon
Judges 15:14-16 (NKJV) 14 When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting against him. Then the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him; and the ropes that were on his arms became like flax that is burned with fire, and his bonds [ a ] broke loose from his hands. 15 He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, reached out his hand and took it, and killed a thousand men with it. 16 Then Samson said: “With the jawbone of a donkey, Heaps upon heaps, With the jawbone of a donkey I have slain a thousand men!”
He carried the doors of Gaza upon his shoulders
Judges 16:3 (CEV) 3 But Samson got up in the middle of the night and went to the town gate. He pulled the gate doors and doorposts out of the wall and put them on his shoulders. Then he carried them all the way to the top of the hill that overlooks Hebron, [ a ] where he set the doors down, still closed and locked.
Samson pulls down Dagon's temple killing many philistines.
Judges 16:28 (NKJV) 28 Then Samson called to the Lord , saying, “O Lord God , remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”
David, king of Israel
As a shepherd, David killed a lion and a bear with his hands
1 Samuel 17:34-36 (NKJV) 34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”
The stone sank into the forehead of goliath
1 Samuel 17:45-47 (NKJV) 45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord ’s, and He will give you into our hands.”
so that the stone sank into his forehead, Here we pause for a prophetic activation. Remember that David was not only King but also a Prophet. So, what do you think the stone is representing in the defeat of this Philistine giant? He was guided by the Lord to send a powerful message that strongly resounds even to these days and will continue for ever and ever.
Might is greater than strength Might cause us to be bold. Not in terms of volume or size. Might to overcome strength. Might to overcome the strong. This might is an overpowering force. It is Might is an extraordinary power Might is a supernatural strength Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
2 Samuel 21:15-22 (NKJV) Philistine Giants Destroyed 22 These four were born to [ g ] the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants. Counting Goliath there were five giants all together. They were killed by David and His mighty men.
2 Samuel 23:8-39 (NKJV) David’s Mighty Men “thirty-seven in all.” David’s modeled might for his warriors, surely they remembered how he just being a youth killed Goliath the giant.
1 Chronicles 11:10 (NKJV) The Mighty Men of David 10 Now these were the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom , with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.
The Spirit of Might in the New Testament
Mighty works of Jesus Christ The Bible unequivocally teaches that Jesus possessed the power to perform miracles. His miraculous abilities were prophesied in the Old Testament ( Isaiah 35:5-6). These miracles greatly surprised his disciples (Matthew 14:33). With great miracles he confounded his enemies (John 11:47).
Jesus Continuously exercised Miracle working power He exercised divine power over infirmity (John 9:1fwd) Over the laws of nature (John 6:19) Over material objects (John 2:1forward) Over the demonic world (Matthew 12:22) Even over death itself (John 11:43-44)
Jesus Raises the Son of the Widow of Nain Jesus even performed miracles on people without any faith at all. Complete control over death. "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days (John 2:18,19)
Let’s always remember this: Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV) 6 So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.
Matthew 19:26 (NKJV) 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Ephesians 1:19 (NKJV) 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
Ephesians 3:20-21 (NKJV) 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 6:10-11 (NKJV) The Whole Armor of God 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [ a ] wiles of the devil.
Ezekiel 36:26-27 (NKJV) 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
Psalm 112:1-2 (NKJV) The Blessed State of the Righteous 112 Praise [ a ] the Lord ! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord , Who delights greatly in His commandments. 2 His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.
Judges 6:11-12 Ne (NKJV) Gideon 11 Now the Angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. 12 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
