The Throne Room of God Pastor Mark Schwarzbauer, Ph.D.
This is my Bible. It is the incomparable, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. I am what it says I am. I can do what it says I can do. I have what it says I have. I choose to live as it calls me to live. I am open and ready to receive from God’s living Word.
TEXT Revelation 4:1-11
Revelation 4:1 The Rapture of the Church Message from 9/1/24
Revelation 4:2 V. 2 brings us into God's very throne room and begins to share future events from heaven’s viewpoint.
Revelation 4:3 The description is of God’s brilliance, not His form. Jasper – diamond suggesting purity or holiness. Sardius – deep red, perhaps picturing God’s wrath or the blood. Emerald – green, symbolizes mercy.
Revelation 4:3 God is holy. His holiness demands justice. His mercy provides where we couldn’t. God’s holiness and sacrificial provision Establishes the basis of worship for chapters 4 and 5.
Revelation 4:4 V. 4 The twenty-four elders are composed of the heads of the twelve tribes and the twelve apostles. They wear white robes and gold crowns.
Revelation 4:4 There are two types of crowns: the sovereign or “ruling” crown and the “victor’s” crown. The elders wear their victor's crowns ( στέφ ανον stephanon crown of victory).
Revelation 4:4 Chapters 2-3 called us to be overcomers and victors, and we, too, shall receive the victor’s crown.
Revelation 4:5 The Trinity is clearly seen here. V. 5 Lightenings , thunderings , and PLURAL voices (i.e. Genesis 1:26).
Revelation 4:5 Jesus in Rev. 3:21 “…I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” Jesus with Father on the throne (plural voices). The Holy Spirit in seven flames - the Seven-Fold Spirit of God, Isaiah 11:2-3.
Revelation 4:6-8 The Sea of glass like crystal. Four living creatures full of eyes in front and back. The first is like a lion. The second is like a calf. The third had a face like a man. The fourth was like a flying eagle.
Revelation 4:6-8 Jack Hayford says these “are angelic beings who resemble Ezekiel’s and Isaiah’s vision of cherubim. They are the highest-ranking celestial beings and represent all the vital forces of creation whose primary function is worship.
Revelation 4:6-8 The fact that they are “full of eyes” symbolizes unceasing watchfulness. Their identities are symbolized by different appearances: lion – courage , calf – strength, man – intelligence, eagle – speed; all in service to their creator.”
Revelation 4:6-8 In Ezekiel 1, he describes these as each having all four characteristics. John may have been describing from one vantage point. Angels also have been noted as being able to change form.
Revelation 4:6-8 Not resting day or night is an expression of seeing continuous action and doesn’t mean they don’t do anything else. Ezekiel 1:12 points out that “they went wherever the spirit wanted to go.”
Revelation 4:6-8 Holy, holy holy , Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come – Jesus.
Revelation 4:9-11 V. 9-11 The worship encounter. Worship – glory, honor, thanks, and power. The twenty-four elders fall down and cast their crowns.
Revelation 4:9-11 “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” Ties in to John 1:3.
Revelation 4 & 5 John's Revelation shows us the very throne room of God and the exalted Jesus. This continues in chapter five as we continue the theme of conquering with the Conquering Lamb
Notes from Revelation 4 1. Heaven is real, and as we see further revealed in Revelation, so is hell! 2. God is holy, and there is judgment or wrath in His holiness. This is also further revealed in Revelation in the Great Tribulation.
Notes from Revelation 4 3. God is also merciful and has made provision exclusively through His only begotten Son, Jesus. This is also further revealed in chapter 5 and the remainder of Revelation.
Notes from Revelation 4 4. God is revealed as one God eternally existing as three persons : Father, Son, and the Sevenfold Spirit of God. 5. The victors’ crowns await you if you overcome the world.
Notes from Revelation 4 6. Worship in Heaven is based on the worthiness and greatness of God. 7. Great things are ahead because we serve the One True God!
Closing If you want some heaven on earth, learn to worship. Be ready for the Rapture.
