SACRAMENT What is sacrament?

What is difference between sacrament and sacramental ?

Within the Catholic tradition, a "true sacrament" refers to one of the seven rites recognized as a visible sign of God's invisible grace, instituted by Christ.  These sacraments are  Baptism , Confirmation,  Eucharist , Reconciliation (Confession),  Anointing of the Sick ,  Holy Orders , and  Marriage .  Each sacrament confers a specific grace and deepens the recipient's relationship with God and the Church, with the Eucharist being considered the "Sacrament of Sacraments" for bestowing the real presence of Jesus Christ.

CATEGORIES OF SACRAMENTS 1.SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION: = Baptism,Confirmation , and Eucharist, Which initiate new members into the Church.

CATEGORIES OF SACRAMENTS 2. SACRAMENTS OF HEALING: = Reconciliation and Anointing of the sick. Which provide spiritual and physical healing.

CATEGORIES OF SACRAMENTS 2. Sacraments at the service of communion: = Holy Orders and Matrimony. Which are given for the mission and service of the faithful.

Key Characteristics of a Sacrament An Outward Sign:  Sacraments involve visible, tangible elements or actions, such as water in baptism or bread and wine in the Eucharist.  An Inward Grace:  These outward signs point to an unseen spiritual reality, which is God's free gift of His presence, help, and salvation, known as grace.

Instituted by Christ:  Sacraments are understood to have been established by Jesus Christ.  Action of the Holy Spirit:  Considered to be the master works of God. In the new covenant through which the Holy Spirit works to sanctify individuals and the church. An Efficacious Means of Grace:  Sacraments are not mere symbols but also convey the grace they signify.

THREE ESSENTIALS COMPONENTS MATTER: this is the physical, sensible element that is part of the sacrament. Example: In Baptism, water is the matter, and in Confirmation, chrism(consecrated oil) is the matter.

THREE ESSENTIALS COMPONENTS 2 . Form: This refers to the specific words and gestures associated with the sacrament. For instance, in Baptism, the words "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" are the form, accompanied by the action of pouring water or immersing the person.

THREE ESSENTIALS COMPONENTS 3. Minister : This is the person with the proper authority to perform the sacrament. In the Catholic Church, the minister must have the authority to administer the sacrament, such as a priest for the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Reconciliation.

THREE ESSENTIALS COMPONENTS 4. Intention: This refers to the intention of the minister and the Church to perform the sacrament with the purpose that Christ intended. For example, when a minister administers a sacrament, their intent must be to bring about the sacramental grace that the Church intends.
