INTRODUCTION Therapeutic agents are used to the treatment of disease or disorders by remedial agents. Nature is an attractive source of new therapeutic agents as a tremendous chemical diversity is found in millions of species of plants, animals, marine organisms and microorganisms. Natural products remain an important source of new drugs and therapeutic agents. Microorganisms have great potential as natural sources of drugs for the treatment and prevention of diseases like cancer, anaemia , diarrhoea , obesity, diabetes, etc . non recombinant organisms are also potential sources of natural antioxidants, immuno -suppressants, enzyme inhibitors, vitamins, enzymes Elango presentation 08-10-2018
Types of therapeutic agents Many different types of therapeutic agents were used for treatment of diseases. ENZYMES ANTIMICROBIAL PEPTIDES PROTEINS INTERFERONS IMMUNOSUPPRESSORS VITAMINS etc, Elango presentation 08-10-2018
Therapeutic uses of enzymes Therapeutic enzymes have a broad variety of specific uses Oncolytics Anticoagulants Thrombolytics Replacements for metabolic deficiencies Digestive aids Metabolic storage disorders, etc Elango presentation 08-10-2018

ENZYMES THERAPEUTIC USES BASIS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION PROLACTAZYME LACTOSE INTOLERANCE IT IS A PROENZYME THAT PRODUCES LACTASE IN STOMACH ABOUT 75% OF WORLD POPPULATION IN ADULT INTOLERANCE TO LACTOSE. STREPTOKINASE HEART ATTACS (MYOCORDIAL INFRACTION) USED AS A CLOT BLUSTERS DISOLVE THE CLOTS ADMINISTRATED TO I.V DURING THE TIME OF HEART ATTACH COLLAGENASE SKIN ULCERS CAUSE COLLAGEN HYDROLYSIS REMOVE DEAD CELLS ON THE SKIN LYSOZYME ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY CAUSES BACTERIAL CELL WALL HYDROLYSIS INFECTIOUS DISEASE RIBONUCLEASE ANTIVIRAL THERAPY CAUSES RNA HYDROLYSIS VIRAL INFECTION TRYPSIN INFLAMATION CAUSES PROTIEN HYDROLYSIS.
ANTI INFLAMATORY AGENTS Administration of some enzymes is shown to be effective in the reduction of various inflammatory responses Chymotrypsin : chymotrypsinogen (the zymogen form produced in pancreas) is converted to active form in small intestine Bromelains : plant proteases purified from the stem or the fruit of pineapple Their anti-inflammatory action is not known in detail. Probably their ability to degrade protein. Based inflammatory mediators play a role in their action. Elango presentation 08-10-2018
Proteins as therapeutic agents Our body naturally produces many of the proteins that are act as therapeutics. Protein therapy is similar to gene therapy, but unlike gene therapy, protein therapy delivers protein to the body in specific amounts. It helps tissue repair, illness, treat pain or remake structures. Antibody based drugs, anticoagulants, blood factors, growth factors, hormones, interferon, bone morphogenetic proteins, interleukins and thrombolytic. Elango presentation 08-10-2018

CONCLUSION ON therapeutics can be used to treat diseases such as cancer, viral infections, inflammatory and genetic disorders. There is a wide scope to improve the available delivery strategies as well as to invent new strategies for successful application of ON therapeutics
