2. Introduction: Information Systems play a crucial role in business organizations today. Every business needs to manage data for storage, analysis, decision-making, and simplification of various business activities and resources that comprise the business altogether. A visit was made to various business organizations near me, and knowledge was gathered about the information systems being used there. The methodology used was a simple walk in, with questionnaires being asked verbally to the concerned staff(s). 2

3. 1 . New SN Book Shop, Mitrapark 3

4. Information System used in New SN Book Shop, Mitrapark New SN Book Shop, Mitrapark , is involved in retail selling of books, stationeries, and also exchange of second hand books. It is located beside Pashupati Multiple Campus, Mitrapark , and has a large number of student customers. The small business venture uses Inventory and Accounting Software for Book Publishing called Busy, and developed by the company - Indiamart Pvt. Ltd. The features offered are: Complete Inventory Management, Bill of Materials (BOM) management and production process, Planning for Material Requirement, Profitability Reports and Analytics, Returns management, and eCommerce . The business uses bar-code reader for inventory tracking, and accepts card swiping as part of the information system management hardware. 4

Information System used in Burger House and Crunchy Fried Chicken, Bhatkekopool The Burger House and Crunchy Fried Chicken offers a delightful menu of burgers, sandwiches, coffee, and other fast food items. The Information System used in the business operated in Bhatkekopool is developed by Milestone Software Pvt. Ltd . , a Hattisar , Kathmandu based company, and is called Restaurant Management System. The features included in the software are :- Kitchen order tickets Table creation and transfers Purchase planning and purchase order management Sales records Discounts Auto barcode / l abel printing from purchase b ill Online order or table booking m anagement Easy and fast billing Cashier and h ome delivery The hardware assisting in the management of information are Computers, Mobile phones, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), and Bank Card Swipe Machine among some. 7

10. Information System used in Alpha Fitness Center, Sukedhara The Alpha Fitness Center is a state of the art, modern physical exercise and health hub built around the heart of Sukedhara . The center uses Microsoft Excel as the Information System management tool. The tool keeps the track of machines and equipments lists, members, trainers, finances, and schedules. The attendance and billing are the core functional operations carried out through the software. The members can also autonomously use internal sensors of the equipments to monitor performance , heart rate and track calories burned throughout their immediate or overall sessions. 10

11. Conclusion: The outcome of the field visit was to know about the different Information Systems that were in use by various business organizations around my facility. While billing and payment was common in all three, the information systems also kept records of the immediate stakeholders, inventories, final-products and end-services, that are core to their respective businesses. A total of 7 organizations were visited, but, 4 of them were still using traditional manual book-keeping system for information handling. Also, it was found that the end users, especially the cashiers had little knowledge about the overall scope of the system, vocationally did what they were trained to, and relied on immediate seniors if any new issues had to be dealt with regarding the system being used. Overall, as a student of Information Technology, the study gave me a chance to physically reach and know about contemporary technologies being used, some of which seemed sophisticated and new to me, and I enjoyed a healthy learning time through this experience. 11
