Network : 1. Personal Area Network (PAN) 1 . Local Area Ne twork (LAN) 2. Campus Area Network ( CAN) 3. Metropolitian Area Network (MAN) Wide Area Network ( WAN). Network is a medium that is used to connect two or more devices. And it helps us to transfer the data between connected devices. It can be wireless or wired. Types of Network :
Tchnology Range Transmission Speed Area Ownership Maintennance Errror Rate &Cost
IP Address : An IP address, or internet protocol address, is a series of numbers that identifies any device on a network. Computers use IP addressed to communicate with each other both over the internet as well as on other networks.
IPv4 : Internet Protocol version 4 ( IPv4 ) is the fourth version of the Internet Protocol (IP). The length of IPv4 is 32 bit. In IPv4, around 4 billion ( 2 32 ) unique IP address are generated. The range of IPv4 is 0 to 255.
IPv6 : Internet Protocol version 6 ( IPv6 ) is the sixth version of the Internet Protocol (IP). The length of IPv4 is 128 bit. In IPv4, around 304 trillion ( 2 128 ) unique IP address are generated. The range of IPv6 is 0 to FFFF (65535).
Classful addressing : Classful addressing is an IPv4 addressing architecture that divides addresses into five groups.
Classless addressing : A classless addressing is an improved IP Addressing system. In a classless addressing System the block of IP Address is Assigned Dynamically.
Subnetting : When a bigger network is divided into smaller networks to maintain security, then that is known as Subnetting. So, maintenance is easier for smaller networks. For example, if we consider a class A address, the possible number of hosts is 2 24 for each network, it is obvious that it is difficult to maintain such a huge number of hosts.
Supernetting : Supernetting is the opposite of Subnetting. In Supernetting , multiple networks are combined into a bigger network termed as a Supernetwork or Supernet . Supernetting is mainly used in Route Summarization, where routes to multiple networks with similar network prefixes are combined into a single routing entry.
