What is thread ? ? ? The continuous helical groove on a screw or on the inner surface of a nut.

Thread terms : ☺ major Diameter ☺ pitch diameter ☺ minor diameter ☺ angle of thread ☺ depth of thread ☺ root ☺ lead ☺ crest ☺ flank ☺ pitch

Thread terminology

Major diameter: It is the largest diameter of an internal or external screw thread. It is also known as outside or nominal diameter.

It is the smallest diameter of an internal or external screw thread. It is also known as core or root diameter. 2. Minor diameter:

3. Angle of thread: Angle of adjacent flanks measured at the cross-section of the screw thread- included the axis of the screw thread.

4. Depth of thread: The height between the root and the crest vertically to the thread axis.

5. root: The bottom surface joining the two adjacent flanks.

6. crest The top surface joining the two flanks of a thread is called crest.

7. pitch: It is the distance from a point on one thread to the corresponding point on the next point. This distance to be measured parallel to the axis of the thread.

8. Flank Thread face(excluding the root and crest).

9. lead The distance covered by the nut in a single revolution on bolt parallel to the axis is called “LEAD”
