INTERVAL A Fun and Easy Way to Learn About Time! TIME Year 4 Ms. Neetu Gupta

Warm up 1 2 3 4 How long does it take to brush your teeth ? How long does it take to tie your shoelaces? How long do you spend watching your favorite cartoon episode? How long is a school assembly?

Learning Objectives Understand what a time interval is ? Solve real-life time problems. Learn how to calculate elapsed time.

What is a Time Interval? Time interval = The difference between the start time and end time. Example: If a movie starts at 3:00 PM and ends at 5:00 PM, how long did it last? (Answer: 2 hours)

Understanding Time on a Clock Analog Clock vs. Digital Clock Time measurement in words Time Notation (AM / PM)

Hour Hand : The hour hand on the clock is like a small hand. It shows us the hours. After one hour, it moves to the next number on the clock. It takes 12 hours for the hour hand to go all the way around the clock. Second Hand : There is another very thin hand on the clock that moves very quickly. This hand shows the seconds. Every minute has 60 seconds Choose the Right Person: Minute Hand: Te long hand that tells the minutes that have passed in that hour. In simple words, it indicates the time in minutes.

Digital VS Analog Calendar Time Blocking

1 2 3 Time measurement in words Quarter to means there are 15 minutes remaining until the next hour. For example, 05:45 means there are 15 minutes to reach 6:00. So, it is read as “quarter to six Quarter past means 15 minutes have passed after the hour has started. For example, 07:15 means 15 minutes have passed after 7:00. It is read as “quarter past seven”. Half-past means 30 minutes have passed after the hour has started. For example, 08:30 means 30 minutes have passed after 8:00. It is read as “half-past eight We use different terms to represent specific time intervals

Step-by-Step Method to Find Elapsed Time Identify the Start Time and End Time. Add both to find the total time interval. Count the hours first, then the minutes. 1 2 3

Example 1 (Simple Calculation) The bus leaves at 2:15 PM and reaches at 3:05 PM. Find the elapsed time. Solution: From 2:15 to 3:00 = 45 minutes From 3:00 to 3:05 = 5 minutes Total Time Interval: 50 minutes

Time Notation - AM & PM There are 24 hours in a day but only 12 hours on a clock, hence we split the day into two parts as stated below: AM (Ante Meridiem): Midnight to Noon (12:00 AM - 11:59 AM) PM (Post Meridiem): Noon t o M i d n igh t (12 : 00 PM - 11: 5 9 PM)

Examples Breakfast at 7:30 AM School starts at 8:00 AM Lunch at 12:30 PM Dinner at 7:00 PM Question: Is 9:15 AM in the morning or evening?

Fast Quiz (Daily Life) Recess starts at 10:30 AM and ends at 10:50 AM. How long is recess?

Key Takeaways Time intervals tell us how much time has passed. Use step-by-step counting to find elapsed time.

Challenge Yourself! (Homework) Keep a Time Journal for a day. Write down the start and end time of your activities and calculate the time intervals. Try solving 3 more real-life time problems at home. Call to Action -
