ASSEMBLING AN EXTENSION CORD

ARRANGE THE STEPS IN CONSTRUCTING AN EXTENSION CORD

_____Connect one end of the wire into two terminals of the plug and tighten it with the screw. Do not forget to cover it, so the wire will not be exposed and cause electric shock. _____Take one of the ends of your electrical wire and peel of the plastic insulator to expose the wire. Take extra care when peeling, so you will not damage the wire inside. Divide the wires into two to create connections for two metal terminals. Do this on both ends. _____Get the main plug. Using the screwdrivers, take off or remove the screw to loosen each of the terminals. _____Close the outlet and fasten it with screw tightly. _____Connect the other end of the wire to the outlet. Loosen the screw to open it, and place the separated wires to the metal terminal inside the outlet. 1 2 3 4 5

PROTOCOLS IN MAKING ELECTRICAL GADGET

ACTIVITY 1 COMPLETING THE PROCESS LADDER 1 2 4 3 5

Why is it important to know how to make electrical gadgets?

How will it be useful at home and in your daily life?

What is the importance of remembering the different protocol/ processes/ steps in making electrical gadgets?

DAY 2

CONDUCTOR are materials used in the assemble of electrical gadgets where electrons flow. Some examples of conductors are electrical wire and any metal.

NON CONDUCTOR is a material which electricity cannot pass through. Another term for non conductor is insulator , means a material that is poor conductor (heat or electricity). Dry rubber and dry wood are the examples of non conductor.

EXAMPLES OF ELECTRICAL GADGETS

PLUG It is the structure at the end of appliance that receives electricity. A two-prong plug is typically use or ungrounded appliances like lampshade which has less than 15 amperes capacity.

ELECTRICAL OUTLET Receptacle providing a place in a wiring system where current can be taken to run electrical devices.

EXTENSION CORD It is also called power extender. It is flexible power cable that can reach long–distance connections.

BASIC TOOLS AND MATERIALS USED IN ELECTRICAL GADGETS

HEALTH & SAFETY PRACTICES

1. Make sure that the gadget you are making or repairing is unplugged or has no power.

2. Do not make or do any repair if you do not have the knowledge or skill in doing it. Adult supervision is needed at first when learning how to make or repair an electrical gadget.

3. Use the right tool for the right job. A hazard can cause harm by improper use of tools.

4. Inspect tools for defects or damages before using them.

5. Read the instruction manual before using a power tool.

6. Do not be on a rush. Take your time and you will be less likely to injure yourself.

7. Work with adequate light.

8. Invest in quality tools . Good tools last long and function well

9. Keep work area clean .

10. Never run your fingers along the raw edge or sharp edge of the tool or material to check for sharpness.

11. Report untoward incidents like accidents or injury.

Group the following pictures as either conductor or insulator. CONDUCTOR INSULATOR

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED? Raise the thumbs up sign if your answer is True and raise the thumbs down sign if your answer is False .

___ 1. WHEN WORKING WITH ELECTRICITY, IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO STAND ON A WET FLOOR.

___2. START WORKING EVEN IF THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY YOUR TEACHER.

___3. DO NOT USE SAFETY GLOVES WHEN WORKING WITH ELECTRICITY.

___4. NEVER TOUCH WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK.

___5. TURN OFF AND UNPLUG THE DEVICE BEFORE WORKING ON IT.

___6. USE DEFECTIVE ELECTRICAL TOOLS.

___7. ONLY USE THE TOOL ACCORDING TO ITS FUNCTION.

___8. WHEN WATER IS SPILLED NEAR YOUR WORKING PLACE, CLEAN IT AFTER YOU FINISHED YOUR WORK.

___9. WEAR JEWELRY WHILE WORKING.

___10. MAKE JOKE TO YOUR CLASSMATES WHILE WORKING WITH SHARP TOOLS.
