Tourism and Cultural Economy

What is tourism? Tourism refers to the activities of people traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for leisure, recreation, culture, business, or other purposes, for not more than one consecutive year . Key Features of Tourism Travel and Stay – Tourism requires movement away from one’s usual place of residence and involves at least an overnight stay. Purpose – It can be for leisure (holidays, adventure, culture), business (meetings, conferences), or other personal reasons. Economic Activity – Tourism contributes significantly to national and local economies through spending on hotels, restaurants, transport, and attractions. Cultural Exchange – It promotes interaction among people of different backgrounds, enhancing mutual understanding and appreciation. Time Limit – Tourism excludes permanent migration; it is temporary, usually less than a year.
