MALETSUNYANE WATERFALL MALETSUNYANE WATERFALL : It is one of the highest single –drop waterfalls in Africa with a height of 192 meters (630). T he water fall is situated in the Maletsunyane River gorge near the town of Semonkong ,”PLACE OF SMOKE “ Maletsunyane waterfall is a popular tourist attraction in Lesotho ,drawing visitors from all over the world to marvel at its stunning beauty and the surrounding natural landscape .
THABA BOSIU THABA BOSIU : meaning “ Mountain at Night ” , is a historical and cultural site in Lesotho that is a popular tourism attraction located near the capital town of Maseru, Thaba Bosiu holds great significance in the history of Lesotho and is a must –visit for tourists looking to explore the country `rich heritage . Thaba –Bosiu served as the stronghold of King Moshoeshoe I , the founder of the Basotho nation ,during the early 19century . The mountain provided a strategic defensive position , allowing the King to fend off numerous attracts from neighboring tribes and European colonizers . Today , visitors can tour the mountain and the learn about its history through guided tours and cultural performances.
THABANA-NTLENYANE MOUNTAIN Thabana-Ntlenyane ,which literally “Beautiful little mountain” in Sesotho is the highest point in Lesotho and the highest mountain in South Africa . It is situated on the Mohlesi ridge of the Drakensberg/Maloti mountains ,north of Sani Pass. It stands at 3482m high. The peak is usually climbed by groups completing a Grand Traverse of the Drakensberg –even though the peak is technically in the Maloti Mountains . The peak is often also climbed from Sani Top Chalet or from Vergelegen Nature Reserve .
SEHLABATHEBE NATIONAL PARK Sehlabathebe ; is a small village located in the Qacha`s Nek region of Lesotho. This little village is located on the outskirts of the country`s only national park. The Sehlabathebe means “shield of the Plateau” The Sehlabathebe National Park was established in 1969 and is well known for its various types of grasslands .This park is part of the Maluti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area. This is the only designated national park in Lesotho. It comprises 6500 hectares at an average elevation of 2400m . The park conserves an area of high mountain plateau bordering on South Africa. TS`EHLANYANE NATIONAL PARK Ts `ehlanyane National Park is located in the Lesotho Highlands Area ,which is adorned with some of the most outstanding natural assets our kingdom of Lesotho has to offer . These treasures are protected under several statues including the national Environment Act ,NO.10 of 2008 ,which is based on the principles that every person in Lesotho has a right to a clean and healthy environment and that sustainable development is founded on the sound management of the environment. MORIJA MUSEUM &ARCHIVES Morija Museum & Archives , also known as Morija Museum , is located in Morija , a large village in the Maseru district of Lesotho .The museum was formally opened in 1956, and entered its present permanent facilities in 1989. The purpose of the museum is to carry on the tradition of Morija , as a center of learning , innovation and excellence , in Lesotho . Morija Museum is home to many cultural trasures including ,traditional Basotho artifacts as well Lifaqane and Boer War memorabilia . The Archives were started by the Founder of Masitise Mission Rev. D. F Ellenberger during his 59years of mission work in Lesotho. This collection was preserved and augmented by various missionaries, especially Rev.Brutsch who has increased the collection tremendously. The Morija Archives which is particularly renowned for its documentation of the 19 th century Lesotho ,developed as envoys of the Paris Evangelical Missionaries have played a significant role in education as well as in political affairs of Lesotho . Acting as advisors and secretaries to Moshoeshoe ,the missionaries kept import documents which were and are of interest to the nation as a whole .
KATSE DAM Katse dam is a popular holiday destination ,providing plenty of water –based activities .Enjoy boat trips and cruises along this majestic dam ,and experience breathtaking sunsets .Katse is the highest dam in Africa ,is also one of the world`s ten largest concrete arch dams in terms of volume ,with a capacity of nearly 2 billion cubic meters and a surface area of 38.5 square kilometers .The dam is built in Lesotho Maloti Mountains and is at Centre of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project .The dam provides in the region of 72 megawatts of electricity for Lesotho and earns millions in revenue for supplying South Africa with water . The flora surrounding the dam is of photographic beauty while bird life abounds and the winter months find the surrounds sprinkled with snow .Tours are offered of the dam wall where visitors can stand in fascination at Man`s great achievement –the project continues with new phrases Activities and attraction Katse Dam and surrounds provides Superb activities and attractions to visitors.
