2. Traffic Control Road traffic control  involves directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic around a construction zone, accident or other road disruption, thus ensuring the safety of emergency response teams, construction workers and the general public.

5. Traffic Signals Traffic signals are provided at road intersections. These are control devices which direct or stop the traffic using red and green signals. Types of traffic signal -Traffic control signals -Pedestrian signals -Special traffic signal

6. Why Traffic Signals? Conflicting traffic movements, make roadway intersections unsafe for vehicles and pedestrians Intersections are a major source of crashes and vehicle delay (as vehicles yield to avoid conflicts with other vehicles). 01/10/2015 6

7. Why Traffic Signals? Most roadway intersections are not signalized due to low traffic volumes and adequate sight distances. At some point, traffic volumes and crash frequency is very high so we have to install traffic signals. 01/10/2015 7

8. Traffic Signals (normal traffic light) RED Vehicles must stop. Come to complete stop at stop line or before crosswalk or intersection. After stopping, you may turn right on red at most intersections if the way is clear. V-3

9. YELLOW Stop if you can do so safely. The light will soon be red. GREEN Go, but only if intersection is clear. If turning side, wait for gap in oncoming traffic to complete turn. V-4

10. Traffic Signals (lane signals) Lane signals are used: When the direction of the flow of traffic changes. To show that a tollbooth is open or closed. To show which lanes are opened or closed. You must never drive in a lane under a red X. A yellow X means that your lane signal is going to change to red. Prepare to leave the lane safely. You may drive in lanes beneath a green arrow, but you must also obey all other signs and signals. V-6

11. Traffic Signs Various traffic signs have been recognized by the gov . of India through motor vehicle act, 1939. As per IRC traffic signs are of three types -Regulatory -Warning -Informatory

12. Regulatory signs Regulatory signs are used to inform the road users about laws, regulations, prohibitions. The various regulatory signs are as follow -Stop -Give way -Speed limit -No parking -Direction control -prohibitory V-7

13. Warning Signs Warning signs are used to warn the road users of certain hazardous condition that exit on roadways. They have white background, red border, and black symbol.

14. Informatory Signs These signs are used to inform the road users along route, destination and distance. 16. Pavement marking Pavement markings are generally of white paint. yellow colour marking are used to indicate parking restrictions and for continuous centre line.

17. Kerb marking Kerb marking indicates regulations like parking. Kerb marking with alternate white and black line.

18. Object marking Physical obstruction on or near roadway are hazardous hence should be properly marked. Reflector markers are used as hazard markers and guide markers for driving during night. Reflector marking
