2. Tectonic Plates Tectonic plates are big chunk of solid rocks in earth’s crust.

3. Two Main types of tectonic plates The two main types of tectonic plates are oceanic plates and continental plates. Continental Plates The plates that make the continents. They are made out of rocks, igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. Oceanic Plates The plates that are under the ocean floor.

9. Summary Tectonic plates are big pieces of moving rock that make up earth’s crust. The two main types of tectonic plates are oceanic plates and continental plates . The former makes the continents. They are made out of rocks, igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks . The latter makes the ocean floor. At a transform plate boundary, plates move pass one another horizontally. Plates move because of the slow motion of the hot mantle(magma) that is located under the lithosphere known as convection currents. Lastly, when the plates rub against each other at a transform plate boundary, they cause huge stress that causes earthquakes/tsunamis and faults.
