Location and Movement

Coordinate grid : a grid formed by two intersecting number lines, usually used for creating graphs A xis: (plural: axes) a horizontal or vertical number line on a grid

Coordinates ( ordered pair) : a pair of numbers that describes the location of a point on a coordinate grid (x, y) Eg: (8,6) is 8 spaces to the right and 6 spaces up and (3,2) is 3 spaces to the right and 2 units up

Horizontal coordinate (𝙭-value, or 𝙭-coordinate): the number that tells the distance from 0 a point is horizontally on a coordinate grid; for the point (4, 7), 4 is the horizontal coordinate Vertical coordinate (𝙮-value, or 𝙮-coordinate): the number that tells how far a point is from 0 vertically on a coordinate grid; for the point (4, 7), 7 is the vertical coordinate

Transformations

Transformations: Rotation: spinning or rotating a shape by a certain number of degrees around a point. (ex: rotate 180 degrees or 90 degrees clockwise to turn the shape facing the right) Reflection: Creating a mirror image on the other side of a line. Translation: Moving a shape up or down on the grid. (ex: translate 3 units to the right and 5 units up)

Example of some of the transformations in action:

Let’s try what we learnt so far! https://game.rodocodo.com/hour-of-code/?_gl=1*11im5hx*_ga*MjEyNDcyNDk4Mi4xNzI4OTU3Nzcy*_ga_2SJQ2SJ602*MTcyODk1Nzc3MS4xLjAuMTcyODk1Nzc3MS42MC4wLjE0NTM3OTA0NDY .

Sticky Missions In teams of 3-4 you will take turns finishing the following missions. Each student finishes 1 mission, and the rest of the team members to work together in guiding their chosen player. Challenge: Use the correct terms we learnt today: Ex: translate 3 units right, 2 units up etc etc Mission 1: Guide your player to (D,6) Mission 2: Guide your player to (F,4) Mission 3: Guide your player to (D,5) in the least # of commands possible Mission 4: Guide your player to (A,4) in the MOST # of commands possible
