SAY NO TO TRIBALISM-GRCE REALITY…….TUTH REVEALED July 10, 2016

1 | GRACE AND TRUTH

Tribalism?.... SHOUT, ‘NOO!’

Tribalism is the state of being organized in, or advocating for, a tribe
or tribes. In terms of conformity, tribalism may also refer in popular
cultural terms to a way of thinking or behaving in which people are
more loyal to their tribe than to their friends, their country, or any
other social group.
Tribalism has been defined in as a 'way of being' based upon variable
combinations of kinship-based organization, reciprocal exchange,
manual production, oral communication, and analogical enquiry.

[
Ontologically, tribalism is oriented around the valences of analogy,
genealogy and mythology.
Once you attire tribalism, the power of hating the enemy tribe
emerges and negativity directly trigger. Why hate? Has one has the
power to hate all?
I once read the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) -A
man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was
attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and
went away, leaving him half dead.
31
A priest happened to be going
down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the
other side.
32
So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw
him, passed by on the other side.
33
But a Samaritan, as he travelled,
came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on
him.
34
He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and
wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn
and took care of him.
35
The next day he took out two denarii
[c]
and
gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I
return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

2 | GRACE AND TRUTH

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who
fell into the hands of robbers?”
37
The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”- Hatred between Jews and
Samaritans was fierce and long-standing. The distinguishing weight
by the law expert saw was the goodness and love of this Samaritan.
On the parable of the Good Samaritan: "I imagine that the first
question the priest and Levite asked was: 'If I stop to help this man,
what will happen to me?' But by the very nature of his concern, the
good Samaritan reversed the question: 'If I do not stop to help this
man, what will happen to him?”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
We instinctively tend to limit for whom we exert ourselves. We do it
for people like us, and for people whom we like. Jesus will have none
of that. By depicting a Samaritan helping a Jew, Jesus could not have
found a more forceful way to say that anyone at all in need -
regardless of race, politics, class, and religion - is your neighbour. Not
everyone is your brother or sister in faith, but everyone is your
neighbour, and you must love your neighbour
A Spiritual Samaritan lives knowing that if we were to leave this
world tomorrow, we were the best humans we could be and we
touched the lives of as many souls as possible. We are not asked to
be perfect. We are asked to make a difference.
One fine day as I was travelling, there was a heavily pregnant, for
being accompanied by a noisy child, she aboded the bus with less
fare; tried to convince the bus driver who just gave"piss-take", “She
must pay up or leave!”, he heckled as he bend backward to the
passengers.

3 | GRACE AND TRUTH

The “grumpy" driver started taking a roundabout route so as not to
arrive at the woman’s destination too early – everyone in the bus
publicly disagreed with him. I felt mercy and anguish. All the
passengers were against this driver not minding his and the woman’s
tribe, but all united for the right of that mother. Similar case
happened to me when I found seated in a matatu with a less ten
shillings fare. I tried to convince the tout that I am the esteem
customer and a frequent user of the root that will sort him but he
could not give an ear to that. I thank God for the woman seated next
to me who silenced the issue with her pocket; not asking me my tribe
and I not knowing hers; she took that responsibility as a good
‘Samarian’ and covered the shame from ‘a grumpy’ tout.
Such kind of help comes from a deep heart of love and mercy.
Remember heart is the centre of a person collaborating with the
minds; A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in
his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up
in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of [luke6:45];
for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to
thee; but his heart is not with thee [Proverbs 23:7]
I sometime do ask myself why hate without a cause? I see many
Luhyas, Luo, Kikuyu, Kamba etc. going back home in despair from the
interviews since the one who conducted wasn’t of their tribe but one
from the same tribe is considered. What kind of evil is this? Tribal,
tribal and tribalism is stitching everywhere.
The song utawala by juliani gives me strength to stand firm in doing
good;
CHORUS:

4 | GRACE AND TRUTH

‘’Niko njaaa hata siezi karanga hoehae shaghala bhaghala niko tayari
kulipa gharama sitasimamaa maovu yakitawala Sitasimama*2……..’’
Ukabila na hata ufisadi…….. (Sing better than me)
If you know you are tribalism, so many questions have started
emerging in you, which tribe is the writer? So what? Do you need the
context or the race? Let me conceal so that you cannot be
discouraged reading up to the end because of your ‘UKABILA’ but
this should make you change and start growing in love. God who
commanded me to unite all the tribes did it because he wanted love
not hatred. Remember not everyone is your brother, sister, relative
but everyone is your neighbour.
Stop farcing around, if Boaz could reject Ruth because of her being a
Moabite, then we could not have had King David; as Ruth is the
grandmother of David.
I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon's widow, as my wife,
in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that
his name will not disappear from among his family or from his
hometown. Today you are witnesses!"(Ruth4:10).
I am convincing the churches to embrace love, for churches are the
roots of tribalism; members needs a pastor, Leaders of their tribe,
pastors too need members of their tribe!
Change and be yourself, you were born alone, you walk alone and
you will die a lone. Stop following polical wave of hatred and exercise
love where you are. Differences of our ancestors were there own
differences. You are a new creature through accepting Jesus Christ.
Love, love and love.
My primary teacher used to tell us, “Whoever has ears have heard” -
the rest we leave to God.
