INTRODUCTION Misdirected eyelashes are called trichiasis . Eyelashes(cilia) emerging normally misdirected towards ocular surface. Entropion will cause misdirected eyelashes to rub against cornea. 2

CAUSES OF TRICHIASIS Secondary to chronic inflammatory conditions Idiopathic causes 3

SYMPTOMS Foreign body sensation Photophobia Irritation Pain Lacrimation 4

SIGNS Misdirected eyelash(s) Conjuctival congestion Lacrimation Reflex blephrospasm Signs of causative disease viz:trachoma,blephritis may be present 5

COMPLICATIONS Recurrent corneal abrasions Superficial corneal opacities Corneal vascularisation Non healing corneal ulcers 6

TREATMENT Epilation of affected eyelash Electrolysis Cryoepilation 7
