2.Bihar hairy caterpillar, Spilarctia obliqua ( Arctiidae : Lepidoptera) Activity: This pest damages the turmeric plants extensively in Bihar and Bangal states during monsoon. Damage Damage is caused by the caterpillars. First two stages the tiny caterpillars feed gregariously. Older larvae disperse widely in search of food. Rhizome fly, Mimegralla coeruleifrons ( Micropezidae : Diptera ) Activity: A pest of rhizome in Kerala and Maharashtra Damage: The maggot bore into the rhizome and destroy Life cycle: Adult lay eggs in the soil in the vicinity of plant Egg-3.5days, larval- 16.8days and pupal - 13.5days, adult longivity - 18 ddays , Life cycle: 38-62 days Management: Select disease free and healthy rhizome. Provide proper drainage. Soil application of phorate @1kg/ha. Soil drenching with chlorpyriphos @ 5ml/L.
5. Leaf eating caterpillar, Udaspes folus ( Hesperiidae : Lepidoptera) Activity August- October, sometimes serious. A common pest of turmeric. Damage: The larva folds the eaves, live inside, and feeds on leaves Identification/life cycle: Adult- a brownish black skipper butterfly with eight white spots on for wing and one large patch on hind wing. Eggs laid on leaves hatch in 3.7days, Fecundity-50, larva- 12-21 days with five larval instar . Full grown larva- dark green, 36mm long. Pupation: inside leaf fold, 6-7days.

6.Leaf feeding beetle , Lema praeusta ( Chrysomelidae : Coleoptera ) Recorded from Odisha Damage: Adults and larvae feed on leaves with parallel feeding marks Life cycle: Adult beetle lays eggs singly on leaves, egg-8-10days, larval- 10-12 days and pupal period-15-25 days, pupation in soil. Management: Spray chlorpyriphos / quinalphos @ 2ml/L.
