Inflorescence:Arrangement of flower
Types of Inflorescence
Cymose
Racemose
Acropetal arrangement of flowers Centrifugal arrangement of flowers

Types of Inflorescence
Racemose
Simpleracemose- Compound racemose-
Pedunclebranched peduncle unbranched
1.Peduncle elongated
2.Peduncle shortened
3.Peduncle flattened

Simple racemose
a.Peduncle elongated
1.Raceme-
2.Pedicellate flower in
acropetal manner
Eg.Raphanus

Simple racemose
2.Spike
Sessile flower in acropetal
manner
Eg. Polyanthestubarosus

Simple racemose
3. Catkin
Peduncle
thin,weak.Droopsdown
forming pendulous
structure.
Sessile flower in acropetal
manner
Eg. Croton (Acalypha)

Simple recemose
•Spadix
•Thick fleshy peduncle
•Covered by thick large
spathe.
•Upper sterile flower
•Lower fertile flower with
male flowers towards
upper side and female
flowers towards lower
side
•Eg:Anthurium

b.Peduncleshortened
Corymb
Short,unbranced
peduncle with
pedicillateflower
in acropetal
manner
arrange in same
height
Eg. Cassia

C. Peduncle flattened
Capitulum
Peduncle get flattend
to form disc.
Sessile flower
Two types of flower
Eg: Helianthus

Compound racemose
•Compound receme
•Pedicillateflower
•Ultimate lateral branch
of elongated peduncle
•Eg. Delonix

Compound racemose
•Compound Corymb
•Peduncle branch each
bear corymblike
inflorescence
•Eg.Brassica

Compound racemose
•Compound umbel
•Peduncle short and
highly branced
•EgCoriandrum

Cymose
Solitary
•Single flower in the axis
•Pedicel arise on
peduncle
•Eg: Hibiscus

CymoseInflorescence
Monochasialcyme
Eg: Hamelia
Uniparous cyme
Each lateral branch gives
rise to lateral branch with
terminal flower
a. Helicoid Cyme

Monochasialcyme
b.ScorpiodCyme Eg:Heliotropium
The secondary bud arise
from the alternate side
of the axis

CymoseInflorescence
Dichasialcyme
Eg: Cleodendron
an inflorescence has two lateral
branches that are developed on
either side of the terminal lower
axis which again forms a branch

CymoseInflorescence
Polychasialcyme
Eg: Nerium
Multiple branches arise at the base of
the apical flower on the peduncle

Special Type of Inflorescence
Hypanthodium
Eg: Ficus
A fleshy receptacle which leads to the formation of a hollow cavity featuring an
apical opening known as the ostiole. Male flowers towards the upper side and
female flower at the bottom of the cavity with long style.

Special Type of Inflorescence
Cyathium
Eg: Euphorbia
Cup like cluster of altered leaves that surrounds a female
flower and many male flowers.

Special Type of Inflorescence
Verticillaster Eg: Ocimum
It consist of axis with nodes and internodes. At each node
there present a group of flowers arrange in cyme. It appears
like whorled arrangement of flowers.
