1 ) PROGNATHOUS ( Pro- front, gnathous – jaw) also called coleopteroid type axis of the head is horizontal in line with the axis of the body Mouth parts – foreword Eg : ground beetles.
2 . HYPOGNATHOUS ( Hypo – below, gnathous – jaw ) also called orthopteroid type axis of the head is vertical Right angles to axis of the body Mouth parts - ventrally placed & downwards
3. OPISTHOGNATHOUS ( Opistho – behind ; gnathous – jaw) also called hemipteroid type Head is deflexed Mouth parts - directed backwards & held in b/w the fore legs Eg : Stink bug
