EXPLORATORY/INFORMATIVE It provides information history, theories, practical applications, etc. that can/will help the Listeners understand something that is unknown to them or already known to them but not yet clearly understood.
EXPLORATORY/INFORMATIVE It is meant to understand a topic in a more in-depth manner by providing data in an organized way. Sample: Bird Flu Virus (H5N6)
EXPLORATORY/INFORMATIVE Guidelines: It must have a Message prepared at the level of knowledge of the Speaker It must be tailored to fit the level of knowledge of the Listener It has to take into account the age, gender, social status, religion, and cultural affiliation of the Listener
PERSUASIVE Its goal is to change the Listener’s opinion, attitude, or belief regarding a certain topic (usually controversial) that can/will help convince the Listener
PERSUASIVE The speaker’s assertion must be supported by historical data in the form of statistical results and expert’s testimonies as well as comparisons and contrasts between the Speaker’s side and the Listener’s side of the equation Sample: Preparation for the Big One

ENTERTAINMENT It must lead the Audience into looking at something familiar in a totally and completely humorous light by providing comparisons and contrasts, highlighting the quirks of important personages, assigning human characteristics to inanimate objects, or giving funny meanings to acronyms or anagram
