Typing Vietnamese guide (telex)
Hi you
Here is how to type Vietnamese character with TELEX input method. If you have
not set up a Vietnamese keyboard with TELEX on your computer, please refer to
my previous post.
Make sure your Vietnamese keyboard is active. When done, make sure you
deactivate the keyboard or it will mess up your typing in other languages badly.
In general, with Telex input method, users are required to type in a base letter (a, e,
i, o, u, d) or diphthong or triphthong, then type in a corresponding letter to add
tonal marks to that base letter.
How to type special Vietnamese vowels
Here is the table showing how to type special vowels (đ is not a vowel).
How to type tonal marks
The following table shows you how to add tonal marks to the base letter.
Complete set
As you combine both methods above, you can easily add tonal marks to either
regular or special vowels. Here are some examples:
All diphthongs and triphthongs could be typed and added tonal marks in the same
way since they all have vowel(s) as a base letter. As long as you activate modern
orthography, the keyboard will automatically placed tonal marks above the second
vowel.
Note: You must activate modern orthography typing mode from your Vietnamese
keyboard or else you will receive typo notification. For more information about
this issue, please check my previous post.
It may take one or two weeks for you to get used to these typings. As long as you
are familiar with typing Vietnamese, you will learn Vietnamese much faster.
Cheers.
