UNCONVENTIONAL OIL AND GAS RESERVES . AT THE END OF THIS PRESENTATION, WE WILL BE ABLE TO; 1.define unconventional oil and gas reserves 2. state the types of oil and gas reserves and explain them 3. give the names and location of unconventional reservoirs in the world

MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONVENTIONAL AND UNCONVENTIONAL RESERVERS CONVENTIONAL RESERVOIRS UNCONVENTIONAL RESERVOIRS Has a porous rock formation that contains hydrocarbons that have migrated from a source rock Has hydrocarbons that were formed within the rocks and never migrated Has been studied through geologic formation Engineers lack the idea and technique for extraction Has small volumes of oil and gas and is easy to develop Has large volumes of oil and gas and it is difficult to develop

WHAT IS AN UNCONVENTIONAL RESERVE? In the broadest sense, unconventional reserves are the reserves that can not be economically produced unless one or more technologies are used to stimulate the gas and oil bearing formation of the reserve.

CATEGORIES OF OIL AND GAS RESERVES There are 3 main reserve categories under the  Society of Petroleum Engineers  (SPE) THE 3Ps Proved Reserves, 90% Certainty of Commercial Extraction Probable Reserves, 50% Certainty of Commercial Extraction Possible Reserves, 10% Certainty of Commercial Extraction 3P reserves refers to the combination of all three of these totals, i.e. Proved plus Probable plus Possible in extraction.
