INTRODUCTION Established in 1969, UNFPA is a UN agency promoting sexual and reproductive health rights. Works to ensure every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every person is treated with dignity. Started operations in Nepal in 1971, supporting government initiatives on health, gender equality, and population dynamics.

In November 2024, UNFPA Nepal, collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Population, hosted the inaugural National Conference on Hospital-Based One Stop Crisis Management Centres (OCMCs) in Kathmandu. 400+ Participants – GBV service providers, govt. Officials, and NGOs from 92 OCMCs. Objective: Strengthen multi- sectoral coordination, prevention, and sustainable funding for GBV response.
Key Outcomes:
More Resources – Improved infrastructure & service quality.
Awareness Campaigns – Community education to prevent GBV.
Tech Integration – Telemedicine to expand access.
Training Programs – Capacity building for OCMC staff.
UNFPA ACTIVITIES UNFPA operates in over 150 countries, focusing on Reproductive Health & Family Planning, ending Gender-Based Violence, Youth Empowerment. In Nepal, Strengthening national health systems for quality reproductive health services. Providing maternal and neonatal health care, family planning, and HIV/AIDS prevention. Addressing gender-based violence and promoting gender equality. Supporting humanitarian response during crises.
PLANNING & IMPLEMENTATION Aligns with Nepal’s National Health Sector Strategies and UN Development Assistance Framework. Works in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Population and district-level authorities. Focuses on capacity building, policy development, and improving service delivery. Expanding geographical coverage to more districts for better access to services.
FUTURE GOALS Universal Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health. Empowering Adolescents and Youth. Elimination of Gender-Based Violence.
