UNCRC (1989): The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is an international human rights treaty that sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health, and cultural rights of children. The United Nations General Assembly adopted it on November 20, 1989 , and came into force on September 2, 1990 . The UNCRC is one of the most widely ratified human rights treaties, with 196 countries (including all UN member states except the United States) having ratified it.
UNCRC IS DIVIDED INTO 4 PARTS: Part I: General Principles (Articles 1-4) Definition of a Child: Article 1 defines a child as any human being below the age of 18 unless national laws recognize an earlier age. Non-Discrimination: Article 2 emphasizes that all rights apply to all children without discrimination of any kind. Best Interests of the Child: Article 3 establishes that the best interests of the child must be a primary consideration in all actions concerning them. Right to Survival and Development: Article 6 recognizes every child’s inherent right to life and emphasizes the importance of their development.
