Welcome to Context Clues! What are context clues? Why are they important in reading comprehension? How can they help you understand new vocabulary?

1. Definition Clues Definition clues give the meaning of the word right in the sentence. Look for words or phrases like "is," "means," or "refers to."

2. Synonym Clues Synonym clues give a word with similar meaning to the unknown word. Words like "or," "also known as," or commas can signal a synonym.

3. Antonym Clues Antonym clues provide a word with the opposite meaning. Look for contrast words like "but," "however," or "instead of."

4. Explanation Clues Explanation clues give more information about the concept or term. They often follow words like "that is," "in other words," or "which means."
