Upper leg muscles and Thorax Members : Ricadro Nájera Luis Aguiluz Felipe Sánchez Cristian Bonilla

Introduction The upper leg is the region of the body located between the hip and knee joint. This region of the body is comprised of one long bone, the femur, as well as numerous muscles, tendons, and ligaments, including the hamstrings and quadriceps.

In clinical anatomy the thigh muscles are divided into three groups: Anterior muscles extend your legs and flex your thighs. Medial muscles adduct and rotate your thigh, and posterior flex your leg and extend your thigh.

The anterior thigh muscles The muscles of the anterior part of the thigh include the quadriceps group and a few others.

The medial thigh muscles The muscles of the medial part of the thigh include muscles that bring the thigh toward the midline and rotate it.

The posterior thigh muscles The three muscles of the posterior thigh are known as the hamstring muscles. They extend the thigh from a flexed position and flex the leg.

Exercises Leg Extensions Main target: the quads or quadriceps (the front thighs). Start with knees bent at 90. Extend lower legs as far as possible. Return to starting position under control.

Hamstring Stretch It's more effective to stretch one leg at a time, so you're less limited by your pain threshold. Regular Splits Stand with your feet about two shoulder widths apart to each side. Use the hands for support. If you can't place your hands on the floor, then place both hands on a chair seat directly in front of you. Gradually lower yourself into the stretch for one to 1.5 minutes. Feel the stretch in your inner thigh (groin or adductors). Use your hands to press up out of this stretch when finished.

Thorax

Pectoralis The  pectoralis minor  is a thin, triangular muscle, situated at the upper part of the chest, beneath the  pectoralis major in the human body. The  pectoralis major   is a thick, fan-shaped muscle, situated at the chest of the human body. It makes up the bulk of the chest muscles in the male and lies under the breast in the female.

Serratus anterior and Intercostals The Serratus anterior muscle is a muscle that originates on the surface of the 1st to 8th ribs at the side of the chest and inserts along the entire anterior length of the medial border of the scapula. Intercostal muscles are several groups of muscles that run between the ribs, and help form and move the chest wall. The intercostal muscles are mainly involved in the mechanical aspect of breathing. These muscles help expand and shrink the size of the chest cavity when you breathe.
