1 Illuminating the Path : Advancement in Cat Eye Reflectors Innovative Techology for Safer Roads and Better Visibility
PIMPRI CHINCHWAD COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND RESEARCH, PUNE INTRODUCTION Cat eye reflectors are essential for road safety, providing visibility and guidance to drivers in low-light conditions This presentation explores innovations and improvements in cat eye reflector design to increase their effectiveness and contribute to safer roads 2
PIMPRI CHINCHWAD COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND RESEARCH, PUNE AIM To improve speed accuracy and safety on highways through the advancement of cat eye reflectors. 3
PIMPRI CHINCHWAD COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND RESEARCH, PUNE OBJECTIVES To a ssess the performance of existing cat eye reflectors in terms of speed accuracy and visibility at high speeds. To ensure that the upgraded reflectors contribute to better speed regulation and overall highway safety. To study, promote the model as a cost-effective choice
PIMPRI CHINCHWAD COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND RESEARCH, PUNE The Role of Cat Eye Reflectors Reflect light from vehicle headlights, improving the visibility of road markings and barriers, especially at night or in low-light conditions. Help drivers gauge their speed by reflecting light in a manner that indicates lane boundaries and road alignment, contributing to more accurate speed control. Mark lane boundaries, road edges, and potential hazards, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring safer driving conditions. Provide clear visual guidance on road curvature, intersections, and other critical points, assisting drivers in maintaining proper lane position and navigation. PIMPRI CHINCHWAD COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND RESEARCH, PUNE Data Collection IRC Guidelines (IRC 35-2015) Cat eye reflectors are used on highways, intersections, curves, and medians to enhance lane guidance and road safety. They are made from durable materials like glass beads, ceramics, and polycarbonate for high reflectivity. Placement and spacing vary based on road type and traffic patterns, while different colors (white, yellow, red) are used depending on their designated application on the road. Literature Review 2 Paper No. 1 TITLE : - Effects of incident beam deviation from the center of a cat’s eye retro-reflector on the measurement accuracy of a laser tracing system AUTHOR :- HongFang Chen∗ , Liang Tang, Shuang Zhang, HuiXu Song, ZhaoYao Shi SOURCE : - Optics and Lasers in Engineering 137 (2021) 106387 OBJECTIVE CONCLUSION METHODOLOGY To analyze how the deviation of the incident beam from the center of a cat's eye retro-reflector affects the measurement accuracy of a laser tracing system. A model was developed to study the impact of beam deviation on measurement accuracy. The model was validated through experiments that measured displacement errors at different beam deviations. The study found that even small deviations (±50 µm) significantly affect measurement accuracy, highlighting the need to minimize these deviations to improve the precision of laser tracing systems. 09
Literature Review 2 Paper No. 2 TITLE : - Improved Visibility – Solar Powered Road Markers on Polish Roads AUTHOR : - Sebastian Grabinski SOURCE : - Grabinski , S. (2019). Improved Visibility – Solar Powered Road Markers on Polish Roads. IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering OBJECTIVE CONCLUSION METHODOLOGY The study aims to improve road safety by increasing the visibility of road users, particularly through the use of LED technology, such as solar-powered LED cat's eyes, to reduce accidents and collisions. The author conducted tests on solar-powered LED cat's eyes under various conditions, including different lighting environments and weather, to assess their effectiveness in improving road visibility and safety. The study found that solar-powered LED cat's eyes improve road safety by enhancing visibility, especially in low-light conditions. However, their effectiveness decreases near other light sources. The study recommends using high-quality materials. 10
