OJPs are becoming a critical resource for policy-makers and researchers who study the labour market. LMIC continues to work with Vicinity Jobs’ data on OJPs, which can be explored in our Canadian Job Trends Dashboard. Valuable insights have been gained through our analysis of OJP data, including LMIC research lead
Suzanne Spiteri’s recent report on improving the quality and accessibility of job postings to reduce employment barriers for neurodivergent people.
Decoding job postings: Improving accessibility for neurodivergent job seekers
Improving the quality and accessibility of job postings is one way to reduce employment barriers for neurodivergent people.

So, Why Online Job Postings?
•Online job postings (OJPs) are components of some of LMIC’s ongoing projects
•Their advantage:providing near real-time insights into the dynamic
employment landscape
•OJPs can provide insights into the expected demand in certain industries and
sector, provide insights into the skills and requirements necessary for different
roles, and provide current close to real-time insights into ongoing job and skill
trends in different labour markets
•While traditional methods of collecting labour market information are of immense
value, these are often resource- intensive and time- consuming online job postings
can offer timely, granular insights and local data

LMIC and Online Job Postings
•Having timely job posting data can allow for a relevant and a
deeper analysis of specific industries, regions, or skill sets,
uncovering patterns and facilitating a more specific analysis
due to its granularity and the frequency in which it is updated
and made available
•Like all data sources, the caveats and limitations should be
transparent to ensure the decision- making process is as
informed as possible
•LMIC AND OJPS:
•Using OJPs data to fuel certain tools at LMIC along with
some of our analysis
•Assessing job postings to understand how they influence
important recruitment and employee outcomes, such as
organizational attractiveness and intentions to apply

Upcoming Research: Stay Tuned
•The integration of AI with job postings is having an impact in the evolving landscape of labour
market information
•Along with typical web scraping techniques, AI is being increasingly utilized to tap into new data
sources, including online job postings, social media, and resume data
•AI algorithms are being developed to crawl the web and extract information from job postings,
with claims on improving accuracy, efficiency, and adaptability
•Subsequently, firms in the AI-LMI landscape, for example, use natural language processing
techniques to extract relevant information from job postings, such as job titles, qualifications,
skills, responsibilities, and company information
•Considerations must be taken into account when using data gathered in new ways or derived
from AI technologies, including ensuring ethical and responsible AI use and standards
•This is the focus of ongoing research that will produce a report near the end of 2024
