The most widespread use of the V10 has been in Formula One racing..
Alfa Romeo made the first modern Formula One V10 in 1986.
V10 seem the best compromise between the lower weight of a V8 and the higher power of a V12 !!!

6. Comparison Advantages Balanced forces : reciprocating mass forces are balanced. Less reciprocating mass: compared with a V12. Disadvantages B alancing shafts are required in order to eliminate the vertical moment vibration. C ompared to a V8, the V10 is more complex with more moving parts, and consequently is more expensive to make.
