Intro to Vector Slack

What is Slack? Slack is the communication app that Vector 8177 uses to communicate and update members of the team. Install the Slack app on your phone (and optionally on desktop) to get notifications and stay up to date with what is happening on the team. App Download Link: Android (Google Play) iOS (Apple Store) Windows The majority of team communication will happen on Slack, more social conversations and student discussions are on Discord.

How to Join Vector Slack Fill out the following form detailing which email you want to be used for your Slack account. bit.ly/8177Slack For future seasons, we will likely have a question in the registration form. If you have any more questions, or have not been added yet, email Mrs. Coronado ( [email protected] ) or and you will be added.

Slack Basics The user interface of Slack is similar to Discord or Microsoft Teams if you have used those before and is relatively easy to learn. If you want to learn more about specific settings and how to navigate Slack, go ahead and watch this video.

Vector 8177 Slack Channels Channels are what we use to keep conversations organized. Each channel has a prefix number 1 = Info channels like announcements, FRC highlights, etc. 2 = Chat channels used for general discussions. 3 = Robot related channels such as engineering/programming. 4 = Business related channels such as sponsors/part orders. 5 = Media/Misc. related channels like socials/website. I would suggest adding sections such as the ones seen in the image to help separate and organize them even better.

Section: Info & Chats Announcements Good news, meeting times, todo items, important forms, etc. FRC Highlights Channel used when we go to events/competitions to discuss things such as meeting locations, food, schedules, etc. Training Training links and resources will be posted here for members to explore and learn from. General Used for general communication, questions, discussions, etc. Random Anything non-FRC related you want to share :)

Section: Robot Related These channels will be used for discussions involving the robot-related subteams whether it’s projects, goals, etc. Fabrication Design Programming Strategy and Scouting

Section: Business and Media Logistics Channel used when we go to events/competitions to discuss things such as meeting locations, food, schedules, etc. Part Orders Used for updates on ordering shipments, buylists, etc. Sponsorships Discussion of sponsors , grants, applications, etc. Media Discussion Channel for any media related projects or ideas Website and Socials Updates on socials and website (OA, Insta, Youtube, etc.) Volunteering and Outreach Any updates on volunteering opportunities and outreach events

Slack Suggestions & Tips Avoid direct messaging when possible. Using the public channels allows for everyone to follow along and learn. If you direct message a mentor, be sure to include a coach in the group. If you do not want to get notifications from a channel you can either mute it or leave the channel. Note: Do not mute/leave the announcements channel as that is very important. I would suggest creating sections and organizing the channels into the subcategories shown in the previous few slides. This keeps things more separated and organized which allows for easier use.
