PLANNING EQUIPMENTS AND SUPPLIES FOR NURSING CARE A large variety and number of materials are used in hospitals. An average hospital needs more than three thousand items of instruments and equipments, this shows the type of stores used for patients care in hospital and there for its management and maintenance itself is very important. Material management is an important aspect of resource management. When we talk about resources it covers personnel, materials, money, time, and environment. Proper management of material are very crucial to ail the organization and we the nurses play a vital role in controlling, maintaining and inspecting the material from time to time for efficient and effective patient care .
Equipment management includes all the related policies and procedures govern activities from the selection and acquisition through the incoming inspection, acceptance, and eventual retirement and disposal of medical equipment. The purpose of equipment management is to ensure that equipment used in patient care is operational, safe and properly configured to meet the mission of medical treatment facility. ASPECTS OF MEDICAL AND NURSING EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT
The following conditions should be met to help the decision process in planning phase: PLANNING PHASE
PROCRUMENT PHASE Standardize on models of manufacturers of equipments Specify the conditions and special requirement in the purchase order to specify the supplier withhold payment if specified condition s are not met.
INCOMING INSPECTION It should be carefully checked for possible damages; compliance with specifications in the purchase order; and delivery of accessories, spare parts and operating and service manuals.
EQUIPMENT INVENTORY AND DOCUMENTATION SYSTEM
COMMISSIONING AND ACCEPTANCE It can be carried out by hospital technical staff if they are familier with that item of equipment .
MONITORING OF USE AND PERFORMANCE A link should be maintained between user and supplier and observe any supplier’s technical services.
MAINTENANCE Equipment must be maintained in working order and periodically calibrated for effectiveness and accuracy.
