Biology Project Vegetative P ropagation Natural and Artificial By:- Shaurya D hawan Class:- 10 Teachers Name:- Mrs Albina Wasim

What is Vegetative Propagation Vegetative propagation is a method of asexual reproduction in which new plants are obtained from new parts of plants, without the help of any reproductive organs The vegetative parts means leaf , steam and roots. It occurs only in plants and thus called Vegetative reproduction There are two types of Vegetative reproduction Natural Vegetative Propagation Artificial Vegetative Propagation

Natural Vegetative Propagation This occurs when plants grow and develop naturally without any human interference. Natural vegetative propagation can be enabled by the development of adventitious roots. Thus, new plants may emerge from the roots, stem and leaves of the parent plant.

Reproduction by Stem The stems of some plant grow parallel to the ground. The new root and the shoot develops at there nodes by the method of vegetative propagation Ex:- Mint plant Potato Ginger etc

Reproduction by Leaves Vegetative reproduction also take place through the leaves of a plant . The leaves of some plant like Begonia and Bryophyllum , produce adventitious buds in there depression of there margins . These buds create new plants when cut and planted in the soil in B ryophyllum if a leaf falls on the ground the plant start growing

Reproduction by Roots Plants like sweet potato ,carrot and asparagus develop into large number of swollen fleshy roots . Each single root has buds present on it which grow into leafy shoots.

Artificial Vegetative P ropagation Artificial vegetative propagation is a type of plant reproduction that involves human intervention. The most common types of artificial vegetative reproductive techniques include  cutting, layering, grafting and tissue culturing

Stem Cutting In this method stem into small pieces. The cut ends are planted in the soil and soon new plants arise from them. The cutting should hove a bud while growing the plant throught cutting some examples are- sugarcane, rose , lemon, etc .

Layering In this method the branches at the lower height with axillary bud at the node are bend down to the ground to touch the soil. now a ring of bark is removed carefully .put soil to cover the bend stem and a heavy stone is kept over it the stem touching the ground gives out roots and grow into a new plant.

Grafting Grafting is the act of placing a portion of one plant (bud or scion) into or on a stem, root, or branch of another (stock) in such a way that a union will be formed and the partners will continue to grow. The part of the combination that provides the root is called the stock; the added piece is called the scion.

Tissue Culture tissue culture, a method of biological research in which fragments of tissue from an animal or plant are transferred to an artificial environment in which they can continue to survive and function. The cultured tissue may consist of a single cell, a population of cells, or a whole or part of an organ .

Vegetative Propagation advantages They bear flowers and fruits before than those produced from seeds. It makes possible the reproduction of plants such as banana, orange, rose etc. All plants produced are genetically same as their parent plant. Superior variety in less time is obtained disadvantages It requires a good scientific experties It can not be applied in all type of plants or crops for agricultural product. If some plants get infected the whole crop gets effected .
